I’ve been keeping wild bluegill for a long time and one thing I know is you can only have about 4-5 small ones for a 29 gallon. Once they reach about 5-6 inches they start to become territorial and aggressive towards everything else

That is a bullhead catfish. I currently have 2 bullheads in an aquarium. They r so awesome. Except when the light is on, it looks like an empty tank, cause all they do is hide in their logs. But, as soon as I turn off the tank light, they almost instantly come out and sift through the sand looking for food. Really cool to watch!!

You need to be VERY careful casting for fish to put in your aquarium. Most states do not allow this and some species are illegal to even possess. This is a big deal with so many invasive species moving through our systems. Just be careful man.

Jackie Yang flatheads have brown and black and white splotches and speckles. it's a black bullhead catfish and bullhead aren't as aggressive as your saying. they are very timid and shy and like to hide out alot.

Check out Bama Bass they have a 300 gallon tank dedicated to their two bass, Bonnie and Clyde, and one bluegill, Sherrif, and a few crayfish. It might be a 500 gallon tank, I forget the size of it now.

You generally don't need to clean canister filters more than once a year. Maybe once every 6 months if the fish are really making a huge mess, but unless the flow is diminished, don't bother cleaning it. Also, don't wash the media in tap water, it will kill off your biological, so only rinse it in tank water.

Thats a really tight space for the bluegills/sunfish, the bass minnows and the catfish. Feed one of the smaller bluegill to your bass not the baby bluegill.

NEVER wash your filter media / sponge in tap water. ALWAYS wash and squeeze it out in a bucket of tank water, that way you will not kill off the good bacteria.

That's yellow bullhead for sure you can tell by its tail it looks like a drywall scraper not the traditional v shape and its oversized head and eyes with pointed bone under the aposal fin and rusty tan yellow color,I catch em all the time here,typically 10-12" but will reach 14-16" and weigh 2-3 lbs. But will reach 6 if keeper in the right conditions, and live to 8 years,in 68 to 71 degree water temp,in weedy ponds and lake,I've even found em in rivers,so keep the tank well planted, Source: my fishing log,from my teciques I've worked on,my studys

The film on his gills is normal I fish for bass all the time and almost every bass I catch has that and when a bass is stressed there patters will actually get very vivid like the dots and the horizontal stripes on them will get very pronounced when stressed

When cleaning filter just rinse sponge and rinse carbon leave bio-noodels alone that is the biological filter. Call a TRUSTED tropical fish store for advice. Your tanks looks big enough and youre bass looks fed well. Golfish may prevent unwanted contamination in the tank.

I worked 8 yrs in a tropical fish store and about a year servicing salt and fresh water aquariums. One service account had a couple of Lg. Mouth Bass in a 75 gallon and fed his fish lg. feeder goldfish. I did a 20 waterchange every 3-4 weeks and cleaned the filter. The bass where healthy. If you use feeder goldfish buy the large ones and hold on to them and make sure they get fed for a few days since feeders at a petstore has a high turnover and aren't fed well.

Please be careful handling the fish. Each time they fall to the ground it does damage to the fish that get infected later. You know they are slippery so please get a handle on them. One more thing. Catfish do not sting at all. They have sharp spines and if you hold them right you will not get spiked.

Charlie Yang hi. A 29 gallon is a decent sized tank. it can keep a dozen small to medium sized fish if you have hardy fish like these guys. But these fish are not living in the 29. They are going to be eaten by my largemouth bass lol.

MasterAquatics Just because it will hold that many fish and that they will live it doesn't mean they are healthy. I understand you're feeding them to your Bass soon but id recommend using feeder fish of some sort. They don't have spines so it is easier for them to swallow. Also getting feeder fish decreases the chance of disease.
