I'm a bit concerned that the girls said that John was mad that they were moving because "he liked the house", which to me implies that he plans to follow them. Rather than have him say because "he likes us". The fact the girls came out with something like that makes this whole thing more plausible, if you believe in the supernatural/spirit world. Some 'ghosts' are known only to be seen or make themselves visible or 'befriend' children, that's why I'm not finding this situation too hard to believe. (UNLESS they're being fed lines which the cynical would have you believe. Or the fact it was coincidental that filming continued and you paused in the hallway for a moment before the girls started talking to 'John' straight away).

My son used to see spirit when he was young. It was pretty scary because one of them used to tell him to do dangerous things (things that he didn’t know anything about at the age he was). Thankfully there was a good spirit who used to save him. He lost this ability as he grew up.

My ex was named John.. and MY house has been haunted too.. my kids were saying that they have been hearing strange things in their closet I got a call that he died in a car crash, but I still believe his soul is haunting my house because when I was at a hotel with my family, the lights were flickering so we called the hotel owner and they said the power was fine in the other rooms. I went to Disney with the family, same thing in THAT hotel. We moved, and the creepiest thing was that we heard an echo but couldn’t make what it said. Don’t worry, we feel you.
