Black line on the long point of the tip is fire, and a quick little side sand to help the tip ride a little closer...also fire.

I've found one of the biggest things to get across to newbie caulk users is to stop cutting the tip so big and don't put so much on!! I also always have a wet rag in a small bucket of water nearby on the job. All the time. Helps a lot when keeping your fingers clean while caulking

The bucket of water is a good move. We use a lot of blue paper towels and wash our hands. I agree with you on cutting smaller hole as well 🫡

Love your videos! Is it necessary to caulk entire length-top/bottom of crown molding if some areas are flush to the wall?

We caulk the gaps. If it’s been caulked previously then you don’t have to caulk it. If it’s new trim then we caulk the entire length both top and bottom.

I like using the utility knife to cut the tube too. You can never have too many knives.

DYI'er here, Dynaflex 230 gets a lot of recommendations as the goto all purpose. Is Powerhouse much better ?
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers 4 ай бұрын
It’s decent but I still prefer powerhouse for the type of work that I do. That doesn’t mean that 230 is bad, just a preference thing 🫡

Thanks for tips! What areas necessitate more flex? Crown mouldings? Why? Thanks :)

Some homes / areas of homes move more than others. If you notice a lot of joint movement then go with something like Shermax

I’ve used it, but I still prefer powerhouse. If we need something with more flex to it then I use Shermax

Hello how to paint mdf kitchen. Pls advice me 😅
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers 8 ай бұрын
I’m assuming you mean kitchen cabinets. If that’s the case then that can be a tricky process. In general terms you need to use an adhesion primer, sometimes that means an oil based of shellac based primer. Then go over that with a finish paint like advance from Benjamin Moore

Keep the nozzle as small as possible, lay a small amount of caulk, keep a small bucket of water with a rag with you, tool with a damp finger and clean the excess caulk off with the rag into the bucket. DONT USE PAPER TOWELL! The caulk residue dries on your finger and leaves a shit bead of caulk!
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers Ай бұрын
That’s also an approach. The small nozzle opening works well if you’re trying to fill small gaps. Often you’ll need a thicker bead of caulk if the gaps are larger. We use paper towels to wipe our fingers not the caulk.

I’ll give that a try. We use powerhouse and sometimes shermax if we need more flex.

Every time I see “ caulk like a pro” I know it will be 90% wrong. I’m a true professional caulker. My profession is caulking and waterproofing. Not a painter, plumber, carpenter, or glazier that does a little caulking. In less than 1 minute of your video you are 100% wrong. I’ve been a professional caulker for over 45 years. Acrylic latex is great for interior paint prep, but should NEVER be used in a waterproofing situation. Any exterior caulking is a waterproofing situation. Acrylic latex, in all of its forms are the lowest quality sealants available. Period. And any caulk used on the exterior should be a sealant. This is just one of the reasons residential sealants/ caulk lasts on average 5-7 years while commercial/ industrial sealants last on average 20-30 years. In general painters know absolutely nothing about caulking. I will give you that for untrained ( such as you and most homeowners )a finger is maybe the best tool, but you won’t see a true professional using a finger. ( if we did it would be worn down to the bone) Most of your points are valid but for interior only. You are a pro painter. You know very little about caulking. That is fact. You do know INTERIOR paint prep. But nothing about exterior caulking.

I call baloney on the paper towels; you guys just wipe your fingers off on your pants and T-shirts, not paper towel! 😆
