Slow drainage caused from heavy rain can be a sign that the drain field is near failure. It would be a good idea to limit your water usage and have the drain field inspected to find out what options are available for remedy.

The only way a septic system can last is to not put wash machine, dish washer, kitchen sink, garbage disposal, and water softener into tank. Your tank will have plenty of time to settle and no bio mat will form because your field will never be flooded. The old farmhouses had a grey water tile so nothing went into tank but toilets and bath drains. These systems are 60 plus years and still working well.

You are absolutely correct. Our water use is very different today compared to 30, 40, 50 years ago. Anything we can do in the house to limit the water entering the septic system and spreading out how it is used throughout the day will help to get as much life out of the system as possible.

I have a 20 year old sand filter that more then likely has bio-matting. Pump turns on and has a one way valve, the affluent comes out the inspection port areas of the sand filter. I have seen people talk about Roebic 57, do you think it could help my situation?
