Your videos have given me more confidence over 40' - 50', the highest I've ever jumped, its not much but it meant a lot to me, you and Magic have seriously improved and my Easter holidays are going amazingly! It is good to enjoy the ride even when it goes not as smooth and well done and as we want it to be. I rode a horse that started rushing over the poles in a canter and jumped each one pole instead of widening his stride and it was a big challenge to not jump over the laying poles on the ground. Eastern time is important for me and I hope to spend it in a valuable way.
@ellelasko42435 жыл бұрын
We did pole work in our last lesson and for sure the problem was that the horse I was riding wanted to get over the poles as fast as she could, in the end, she trotted the whole thing and was very good about it, even though I got quite frustrated with her lol :)

You ride him so well! Though I was wondering why you pat him after he has done something wrong?
@PonyCam5 жыл бұрын
I praised him after each go because he halted beautifully from my seat each time after the poles, showing me he was listening, but just not understanding the pole exercise. If he had tanked off after the poles and round the corner, I wouldn't have praised him, but he didn't do anything 'wrong' at all in this lesson, he just didn't understand all of the questions the instructor and I were asking him, so it's a case of ignoring the 'bad', and praising the good :-)

Just wondering does anyone have any advice on getting over a fear of cantering.I had a bad fall at a bad riding school on a bad horse,now I know everyone says it’s never the horses fault and it wasn’t it was inexperienced riding instructors putting us on green horses.I had only been riding for a while and they said for us to jump no stirrups and no jumps over a 1 foot jump,now I was a kid and found this exiting and went for it,not knowing any better and had a bad fall breaking my collar bone and extremely strained my left neck muscle(can’t remember what it’s called LOL)but that was when I was around ten I have been of and I’m now 13 turning 14 soon.I have started back at a much better,responsible riding school with good horses.Now I have trotted and walked on a horse called Cassie.She is a good girl but I have a big fear of cantering for some reason.Any tips or advice ? So on Saturday I rode a new horse Socks although she's very crazy and after I cantered on her my riding instructor told me it's best that I get a different horse so I did. I rode Twix he's very calm but tall. On Sunday I went to a different stable again I couldn't go on Saturday because they were gone. Anyway I rode cloud and we cantered a few times in the arena then I got on a horse called Molly. I attempted to canter but she bolted off. I almost fell of but I was fine. After I got back on Cloud and we went to a race track and I cantered on it☺. Then we went on a trail ride but the weather was so bad so we turned back. I'm going again on Thursday, Friday and Saturday😄

I’ve seen on some of your videos your only riding magic...are you working on him ?
@PonyCam5 жыл бұрын
Shiriska Neethling I’ve been riding him exclusively in lessons since he arrived at the beginning of the year - that’s purely because he can be a little bit tricky and his owner doesn’t want too many different people riding him, and the yard owner knows I’ll happily ride pretty much anything. For those reasons it just makes sense for me to ride him each week instead of swapping loads of different new people onto him for each lesson, as Magic can also be a little bit sensitive and it takes time to work out his buttons :-)

@shinyhorse245 жыл бұрын
You should see about doing exercises where you turn a circle before you get to the fence. If you don’t understand I can link a video to explain but set up a couple of fences in a line and before each new fence circle back to the one before it and it’ll hopefully get him to think about what you’re asking instead of just surging forwards :)
@PonyCam5 жыл бұрын
Thank you :-) your exercise sounds useful, but as these are shared lessons in a riding school, unfortunately I can't choose what exercises we do and it's up to the instructor to tell me how she wants me to approach each exercise. Magic's owner has his own private lessons each week where he can decide what he wants to work on specifically with the help of his instructor :-)

Does anyone have any tips for confidence when riding a strong pony like magic over poles and jumps ❤️
@henrietta93945 жыл бұрын
Summer Riding what I do when riding my strong pony is think “I am in control” over in my head if I start to feel unsure, and a good contact on her reins helps, but not too much as I don’t want to pull her too far behind the vertical or above her outline so she hollows her back. Pull and release with the outside rein a few times and a bit stronger each time she doesn’t react, never pull and not release as they can lean on the bit and ignore you. If you find yourself being carted away at a faster pace than you want, pull them into a small circle to slow the horse down. Also to increase your overall confidence, try riding quieter ponies every so often. I hope this helps!
@henrietta93945 жыл бұрын
Also when going over jumps, sit back and down hard before the jump to keep them from going too fast before the jumps, and learn to count strides so you can fold as the horse takes off. I do this by watching videos like this and counting strides into each fence.

May I just suggest one tiny itty bitty thing. It's nothing to do with your riding, you handled that perfectly. I know a horse in my yard that's like that too. My friend rides him and she is always panting after the lessons. Anyways, it was something you and your instructor were saying. You guys were saying "woah woah woah" kind of..... how would I say, very quickly. What my instructor does is she drags the word out and i think it calm us riders down more so than the horses. So she'll be like "wooooo'ohhhhhhh" almost in sing song form. Now, before you come for me, which I dont think you would anyway because we've spoken before and you are a very nice person but with the way the internet is nowadays you need to explain your life story before saying things, but I am not saying that there is anything wrong with how you're saying things, obviously our horses differ to your horses and I notice in your videos that they respond exceptionally well to voice commands which is super cool and impressive but just there in this one magic seemed to get even more excited when you guys were saying "woah woah woah" really quickly. Just trying to help, that's all xx

Honestly stop patting him when he goes over them too quick your encouraging it x
@PonyCam5 жыл бұрын
Lucy& Ponies Thanks for your comment - please give at least £1 to a charity of your choice in line with the rule in the video description ❤️ I praised Magic after each go over the poles because he halted beautifully from my seat each time we got to the other side, showing me he was listening and awaiting my cues, but just not understanding the pole part of the exercise. If Magic had tanked off after the poles and round the corner, I wouldn't have praised him because that would mean he wasn’t listening to me at all. Magic didn't do anything 'wrong' at all in this lesson, he just didn't understand all of the questions the instructor and I were asking him, but him not understanding the whole exercise doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve praise for the bits he gets right (it just means us humans need to find a better way of explaining it to him)! For Magic (and most horses) riding him positively and successfully means ignoring the 'bad', and praising the good! Patting is a reward for a positive action. The horse is not so clueless that he genuinely thinks speeding through while ignoring my strong half halts, “woah”s, leaning back and pulling on the reins over the poles was really what I was asking for, he was just overexcited about the jump and rushed to get the difficult part (the poles) out of the way. :-) x

@PonyCam5 жыл бұрын
Drop Dop Horses can jump from a standstill if necessary (though obviously not advisable under saddle). The jump was a tiny cross pole and fell down when it was touched, the horse also did a couple of strides of trot or a stride of canter before the fence each time, he was never asked to actually jump from a walk. Walking into fences is never ideal, but was necessary for this particular horse on this particular day and there was no harm done :-)
