God, what a sick book. They look as if they are having such a good time playing I must say, it's nice to see some of these corps return to more traditional uniforms. I really feel it adds to a sense of identity that you can't get from just a repertoire alone.
@jacobhanekamp25343 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it's because of the costs, but as a person who personally doesn't mind the newer uniforms, it is cool to see the uniforms considering I was introduced to DCI in 2016, one of the final years before the transition.
@jasonpetitjean83323 жыл бұрын
@@jacobhanekamp2534 Certainly, cost is an issue this season. But there have been many seasons in the past, especially since 2010, where corps have done variations on their uniforms that matched the theme of their show, instead of having a brand new uniform every season. I miss that era a lot. Having said that, there have been some slick costumes these past few seasons. I like everything the Bluecoats have worn since they pioneered this new standard. I couldn't imagine Babylon working nearly as well with the traditional SCV uniforms. I love the Crusaders outfits this year.

What in the "Spin Corners" and "four Cycles" is this book? WOW! so many licks and nods to the glory days of Cavies from 00, through 04'! Way to go, Mike! You've fed me the nostalgia trip I've been craving! Tons of "old-school cool references with a modern-day charm! An outstanding book for an outstanding year in DCI. All that's missing are the hi-hats on the snares and this show would be complete!

I promise I'm not trying to be negative, I just have a thought/question about bass splits. Sometimes bass splits, even though they are played perfectly, sound really dirty. I don't know if it's the tuning, or if it's the muffled heads. Maybe it's when they do split 32nd notes with single sticking rather than double sticking. Maybe it's when they do splits between a 1st and 3rd bass player, rather than bass drums next to each other like a 1st and 2nd, or 3rd and 4th. I'm not just saying this with this group, but I see it in all groups. They're very impressive parts and they play them perfectly, however it just sounds garbled at times. Almost like a Harley cranking with timing issues. Some splits sound great, and others don't. Thoughts?
@ericm94073 жыл бұрын
The clarity is there between notes, it’s just very dense. I’m assuming you’re referencing to the bass break at the beginning of this video. They definitely hit the 9let 32nd bugaduhs but didn’t hit the triplet 32nds between drums 1-4. As far as tuning, it’s probably harder to get a good balance sound taking into consideration of the huge differences of size of drum. First bass looks like an 18 and the bottom bass is a 32 (assuming).
@Allison_Chaynes3 жыл бұрын
@@ericm9407 Yeah, the beginning is what I was referring to. A good split to me is the Blue Devils from the last year. They nailed it. However, I've heard other BD years where it sounded messy. Not the performers fault exactly, cause they're all like robots at how good they are. Maybe it's just the drums they chose to do the part with. Some of the notes get lost. Sounds like someone playing a roll on a snare drum while accenting the right hand. The roll would sound all over the place even if it was in time. I don't know, just an observation. 🤷🏻♂️ Cheers!🍻

This is so cool. I've been watching drum lines for the past two hours, can't get enough of them. I'm an amateur drummer from the Netherlands and I'm totally new to this. This doesn't really exist where I'm from (at least not on this level). I'm really curious to know how this works! They must be paid professionals, right? I mean, it sounds like they've been practising 10 hours a day for years to get this good. I'm just totally amazed at the incredible accuracy, speed and synchronicity of these DCI drum lines. Can't imagine that these guys are college or university students. Can anyone enlighten me?
@pahketz3 жыл бұрын
the oldest of these guys are 21-22! so they're definitely college and university students. the age limit for DCI is 21, but you can be 22 if you turn 22 during the season. and they actually pay to audition and march with these groups! often multiple thousands of dollars per person once a contract is signed

@@andrewdci03 yeah I know exactly what you mean. No question everyone on that level is first class on talent. Just the style and everything to me now… I guess I’m just old school when it comes to DCI. I loved everything prior to 2010 the most. Then it all just kinda got away from me. I enjoyed blue oats show when they won their title as well. That was probably the only one recent and mainly because they developed their own groove and identity that was unique to them.
