Thank you for making this. My direct paternal 2nd Great Grandfather was a supply sergeant in Company I, 2nd MO Regiment Cavalry (Merrill Horse). This really helped me understand a lot. Thank you!

Was your 2nd Gt. Grandfather a Quartermaster Sergeant?

From the outbreak of the war until about 1863, Southern Cavalry regularly owned their Union counterparts when they met. The South still had good horses, experienced riders and very skilled officers. By '63, attrition had begun to take it's toll and the Union Cavalry was getting better, re-arming and re-organising.

General Averell decisively defeated John McClausland's cavalry force which was double the size at Moorefield. General Sheridan decisively defeated both J.E.B. Stuart and Jubal Early. It was more than just attrition...

True. The same thing could be said for the army of the Potomac as well. They really learned how to fight.

One important distinction between the two sides was that the confederates had to supply their own horses...if they lost one they had to replace it themselves, which was not always so easy and could mean an extended absence from his unit. For Union cavalry the horses were supplied by the army.

The digital cavalry shown are not in good order. Actual cavalry (like all forces) would need to be kept in ranks and files to be effective on the field. Maybe the video program won't put or keep them in ranks? Yeah, real horses sometimes won't willingly keep ranks either!

Could yoy reupload the video please, without the melody in the background? I'm not a native speaker, I have huge problems understanding what you say

My friend, this can be a little confusing....you say the Union went to cavalry Battalions EACH of 4 Troops....(which makes 12 Troops) in the very next sentence you say a cavalry regiment is made up of 10 (TEN) Troops....

None of it would often be exact numbers.

You are not pronouncing the term correctly. CAVALRY CAV AL RY not CAL VERY. CAVALRY is a term for a military formation. CAL VERY is a hill the good Lord Jesus was crucified on some 2 thousand years ago. You make an attempt to teach at the very least pronounce the word correctly. Both the good Lord and the Troopers you mention at the very least deserve it. Thank you Staff Sargent W. Javier E troop 17th Cav. 173rd Airborne Brigade Armor Scouts.

"Sargent" or Sergeant? "Airborne" cavalry? I'd hate to hear the poor horses after being pushed out of an aircraft aloft, much less hear and see them with broken legs after landing! But, yeah, Cavalry is different from Calvary.

@@meh...9500 Why would anyone take seriously someone who can't pronounce a simple word properly? If he cant even do that how can we have confidence in anything he says? Some of us care about credibility of the information presented.
@meh...9500 Жыл бұрын
@@emintey Right so miss pronunciation of a word destroys all credibility, damn the standards are high these days. Also this dude just wanted a chance to brandish his rank, I mean thank you for your service but being grammar police, especially over one word is so feminine. Also he pronounced Sergeant as Sargent, according to your standards we shouldn't take anything this that William Javier says seriously.
@emintey Жыл бұрын
@@meh...9500 Displayed in one simple word indicates sloppiness and in fact does destroy credibility, and look at you...seriously then calling it "feminine" to be accurate even as this is all about a lecture depending on accuracy, wtf is wrong with you? Standards are and should be high, yours aren't, which speaks for itself. You destroy your own, and don't know it and don't care. Have a little self respect.
