whenever i hear this music and i remember the movie "the deerhunter", i think of time passing by when we were young, then all of a sudden here we are like in the sunset of our lives and we start to ask ourselves what had happened? how time had passed so quickly by, how people dear to us had passed on to the great beyond and we ourselves are in the throes of moving on as well. time is fleeting and we often wonder what had happened to our youth, when we would frolic under the sun or dance under the rain. now even every bit of movement is a difficult task and we strain in remembering things past or persons we've known. time sure flies like the wind as the music "cavatina" wafts in the air...

Wade I agree. I reflect whenever I hear this music. I believe it is God- sent, and we can always use this art form as we meditate on the meaning of our lives. And as we live in the service of God and our fellow human beings, in the end, as we watch the fleeting moments before us it will always be a life well- spent, rich, vibrant and fulfilling. That to me is "Cavatina" ...

Such a beautiful piece. Unfortunately, even though it was written well before the film, I no longer can separate it from 'The Deer Hunter', a masterpiece of a film I have only watched once, and never will again, due to the sadness, sorrow and feeling of utter desolation it left me with.. This stunning instrumental just makes me cry now.

When I was a young child, my father said to me "we're going to watch a movie, and it will make you a man". After watching The Deer Hunter I just sat there realizing the terror, reality, and cruelty of war. My father disrupted my silence and said "Never forget your brothers in arms". He was a stern MasterCheif in the US Navy and the Vietnam Conflict recently ended. His words never left my heart. Father, I have not forgotten the fallen, and will carry them with me for the rest of my days. ~ I have been in the USMC now for 33 years and am MasterSeargent. I will not forget you.

Do you know who Gen. Smedley Butler is Sean? You better find out. He wrote a famous book called "War Is A Racket" Butler was one of the most decorated Marines in history but after he retired he came clean and denounced Wall Street for using the US armed forces as their "muscle". The moment the American empire is dissolved the US armed forces can regain their rightful and laudable goal of defending the republic from all enemies foreign and DOMESTIC! That means Wall Street!

In 2/19 I lost my very best friend. Her name is Indigo. She was a Rottie mix, and was 14 yrs old when she passed. I love(d) her with all of my heart. We could finish each other’s thoughts, communicate our feelings with just a look. We were inseparable, and she was a beautiful creature. I first heard this particular version of Cavatina soon after she died. It perfectly expresses the love that we shared with one another, and the excruciating pain caused by losing her. That is why I now refer to this specific music, in this video, as “Indigo’s Song.” 💔💔💔💔😪😪😪😪

Beautiful...the way you expressed it...pets ARE family too....I have soooo many memories of old pets that are gone, they were soooo important in my life, in my children's lives as well...I remember pets from when I was just a little girl; their personalities and everything about them and now I am old and retired. I took it upon myself, however, to take care of a cat that my dear old neighbor when she passed away and although Lisa (the cat) is not as "sweet" and /or cuddly, I make sure I spoil her and take care of her. She was an almost wild farmcat, but she will have a loving home, no matter what, with me, as long as I can take care of her! It wasn't her fault what happened! My children have learnt, since a very young age, to never hurt animals and be kind to them and they are both loving pet owners! Sooo proud of them...I could seriously harm a person, if I knew they hurt animals.....no kidding! Humans are actually the worst animals on this planet....sorry to say!

This song transcends me to the scene in the movie where they have returned from the deer hunting trip. He is playing the piano, and the music fades to the thumping of helicopter blades in Vietnam. This is a precise depiction of my life at that time. Myself and my life was forever changed in a heartbeat three tours in Vietnam and I was no longer the same person. I cannot listen to this music or watch this movie to this day.

Beautifully done. The rough and tumble riverside steel mill town scenes in The Deer Hunter masterfully captured how life was for so many. They used several steel mill riverside towns but mostly Steubenville, Ohio. Dino Crocetti aka famed crooner Dean Martin, was born and raised there, like my Dad. And like my Dad, his Dad was a barber in Steubenville. Every time I hear this song, I think of my Dad who became a victim of some of the brokenness in our healthcare system nearing 11 years ago. Both my Dad’s parents came from Italy as toddlers, through Ellis Island. Many Italians settled in the steel mill towns. My Dad was a True Patriot and effective pioneer in the Electronic Defense industry starting in the USAF. When he passed one of those choked up on learning the news, was the President of the leading global trade group in electronic defense. My Dad had a presence like a cross between tough guy actors Brian Dennehy and Gene Hackman, so we all figured he’d live a very long time. Each of this song, Claire De Lune and Andy Williams singing “Moon River” will always remind me of him. I had to come back to add this: in the category of there are no coincidences or, as not enough say, “Signs from God” perhaps... ...immediately after posting this, I stepped outside for a quick errand. Just in time to note the clouds coming in at a ceiling lower than my current 9,600 plus feet elevation in Colorado. With the full moon rise lighting the cloud play reminding me of the mountain hunting scenes from The Deer Hunter.

I lost my favorite cousin today as he gave way to Cancer...after a 8 year courageous battle. David served his country in Vietnam. He manned a Tank. His hearing never recovered. David was a Gentleman in every respect. David loved his wife Carol without end or doubt. I will always relish watching them “banter”. This was more a product of David’s loss of hearing than wholesale disagreements. David loved his Country like every man should. I always observed David as a “gentle spirit” who deeply loved his family - and was never at loss to admit. David Wilson will be missed “dearly”, as a Man, as a Loving Husband, and as a deeply committed Family Man. David, I loved you on earth.....and I love you now in Heaven. God, please rest David’s Soul such that he may Rest In Peace- Forever✝️

While deemed an Anti-War Movie, The Deer hunter and this Music piece is really about the effect War has on man. The lost of soul, future and compassion. Written for another movie Cavatina here is done perfectly reflecting the true message and theme of the Deer Hunter.

This music haunts me to this day, my husband and I saw the movie when it came out, the next day i purchased the album ( yes vinyl). I played it until it almost wore the record out. When my son was born I would put him in his stroller when he could not sleep and push him slowly back and forth with my foot playing this album until he went to sleep. I did this for him with many different songs and music. He grew up to be a beautiful singer and loves all music. Love this .

What a beautiful rendition of CAVATINA from the Deer Hunter, a movie in which Robert Deniro, Cristopher Walkins, John Savage, and Merriyl Streep gave a VOICE to those who went to Vietnam... and their families and communities.... Did any of our presidents, Kennedy and Johnson, I believe, bother to GRASP the total horror of they brought upon our families and communities????? Thank you, Mr Civino, Mr. Deniro, Mr. Walkins, Mr. Savage, Mrs. Streep, and everyone else in this movie, for shedding light on the Vietnam Horror.

I didn’t expect this movie to have such a profound effect on me. It exposed the depth of the PTSD I had no clue existed in my psyche.. While the other viewers of the movie exited the theatre I sat in my seat weeping uncontrollably for 15 minutes. I walked away from the film understanding that my service in Nam was not for the flag it was for my fellow Marines. Semper Fi.
