Such a gentle soul. His mother was certainly beautiful inside out! And wise!

I've always thought of Ray to be such a strong person. He endured so much in his life from living in poverty, watching his brother drown, losing his sight, losing both his parents as well as battling heroin addiction. It's occurred to me that he certainly got that strength from his mother. I can't imagine what it was like for her losing her other son as well as trying to raise another, all the while being a black person and extremely poor. R.I.P to Ray, his brother, his mother and his father.

His father was a rolling stone. And groomed his mother(ray was born when she was only 15).

when Ray talks about his mother, not feeling sorry for himself and finding at least 2 ways to do anything...damn that got me good

Damn I didnt expect to cry but I sure did hearing how she would always tell him there is always at least 2 ways to do something. I wish someone would have taught me that at a young age. To often we are taught in black and white, a wrong and a right way. Thank you for uploading.

Thank you for venues like that of KZbin for having interviews like this to see a genius bare his soul in a forum that isn't just music. Especially when speaking of his mother. Her presence really meant something to him. He even stopped rocking back and forth at the end, when he spoke about regrets.

Thank you...really enjoyed these interviews. Dick Cavett for me...was a terrific interviewer. Allowed his guests to talk and bring them out a bit. I read somewhere he had a friendship with Janis Joplin for awhile...which was a surprise. Just goes to show you can't tell a book from it' cover.

Cavett, normally a brilliant interviewer, was just a tad out of his element here. Of course, anyone sharing the stage or screen with Mr Ray Charles is ailready in a very large shadow of this immense talent. Hearing Ray's interviews is often just as endearing as his music.
