The title of this video implies that the insulation CAUSED the damp. The evidence of the video does not back that implication. Can you add anything?

It was soaking wet and affecting the internal finishes quite significantly, no I didn’t video inside the property but it’s clear to see that the insulation is sodden.

The water is causing the damp, the insulation is a conduit for the water. If the water was not present, the insulation would be dry. Put water into any cavity, it will be wet regardless of the presence of insulation. Foam or fibre insulation can hold onto water rather than allowing all of it to flow down into the ground, but lightly bonded polystyrene bead insulation won't as the void spaces between the spheres allows any moisture to drain down through it.@@RealtalkManc

Great informative video on cavity insulation issues, did it all have to be removed? What's your method if you needed to remove all the cavity insulation?

It all had to be removed as it was all soaking wet. We remove bricks in strategic locations, rod and vacuum to ensure all insulation is removed, it’s quite labour intensive but when put against compressed air it’s by far the best method. The customer can also visibly see that no insulation remains in the wall.

What caused the insulation to be soaking wet? Condensation from warm inside air with cold outside air? Or something else?

This brickwork and pointing appear to be in very good condition. For that amount of water to be present, I would suspect a roof leak into the cavity.

@@dragonfitter Not correct. Cavity construction is a completely different form of construction to what went before. Cavity walls are "vapour closed" and solid walls are/were "vapour open". Nothing to do with the porosity of the chosen bricks, blocks, or stone.

This is why I hate UK houses, humid and dump weather and they are build so purely. Dump, condensation problems and more. Why not build the houses like rest of the Europe do. Almost 3 layers of different bricks, proper factory insulation, no this wooden sub floor nonsense, properly insulated roofs and all these cowboy traders trying to cheat you. Been there and owned 2 properties in UK. All the same, all are money pits. Old, dump, not properly build properties. Check how houses are build in Poland, Germany or other countries. UK houses have poor plumbing, poor windows, poor insulation (for the climate), build fast but not to last, sorry.... 😔
