Hey all, I haven't seen many owners of these motors come online to comment on how their motors are performing in the real world. Well, this is my motor and as of August 23 2019 I have put on 350 miles and I can say without reservation that I am ecstatic about this motor and I wouldn't change a thing. So far I have been breaking the motor in cruising around town, highway and city mix to work, sat in traffic jam for almost 40 minutes (with 48 IDA's) and the motor idles and drives as smoothly as my mini CooperS... but.... holy damn, it has seemingly endless torque and I haven't taken it over 5000rpm yet - and the sound...... it's intoxicating. Since installation I haven't touched anything to tune or adjust, simply check the valves at the recommended interval and change the oil. My conversations and emails with Pat about what I was going to use the car for and going with his recommendations have created something truly enjoyable. If you are thinking about building a motor with Pat there is something you need to understand up front. They are inundated daily with dreamers. People asking him to recommend specs on a motor, send them a quote with specs and then they either build it themselves of have someone else build it for them.... Having Pat take an hour out of his production day (2--5 times) to consult with over the phone, the back and forth emails, it has a cost associated to it and unless you are serious about having him build for you he can't (shouldn't) take the time. I got brushed off on my first 2 calls in until he told me that if I was serious I needed to leave a deposit. Within 5 minutes he had my $1000 non refundable deposit and we started making real headway in the process. All this to say, there are a lot of moving parts in the quest of deciding on and assembling a motor like these at this level. Pat's gifting is building, tuning and developing and has a great admin team to help out. I think CB should only provide engine building consultation to general discussion around their engine kits and then for deeper consultations charge a fee for it. Go onto the website, plug in your information, car, transmission, desired use, expectations and a non refundable deposit/payment - this will separate the dreamers from the ones that know what they want and have the cake to throw down to move ahead in the cue. Things I'd do differently: - Powder coat the engine tin - Valve covers - The big sexy valve covers required body modification (I have a 1972 beetle) to be able to install the motor & remove covers for valve adjustments - not sure they were worth the learning curve. - Specifically request that any and all AN fittings be black (Some reason mine were all blue) - Make sure to order the JayCee IDA spring kit - or it should come automatically with a turn key motor - Order the Brad Penn oil for the first oil change with the motor in the crate - Brad Penn oil isn't available everywhere - Done this 5 years ago... :) Will update performance after 1000 miles.
