back in my late teens early 20s i was saving up for an engine for my 67 Bug, well i got impatient and settled for less an engine than i wanted because i wanted to drive my car. so, being disappointed in the HP i started saving again, but the second time around i saved till i was damn sure i could get exactly what i wanted, and i started with a CB case the second time around, that thought me a lesson to have patience because patience saves u money in the long run. lol. man, i was so upset with myself with that first engine build.

I know this video is two years old, but surprised no mention of single versus dual relief valves. Have to assume this is a dual relief case.

Air Cooled anything built a CBP kit. He did have to do some careful cleaning on his. He didn't post a video yet if it ran or not after he got it all together.

Nice case. I think the Chinese produce 90% of the world's magnesium and have stopped exporting. Magnesium is used in producing aluminum as well so aluminum may become hard to get.

What I have heard is that the case shortage is do to royalty payments. Something about selling magnesium cases that had no VW markings using the vw tooling. I don't know if it is all the way true, but makes sense why they still have aluminum cases. I'm sure the global supply problem is not helping either. I'm just glad I got mine when i did.

Hey Matt, sweet case! I haven't done the research on the flanged cranks although I know it's a stronger setup and would need a split rear main bearing, why do bearings 2 and 3 have the spots cut for bearing tangs do they use a custom split bearing that resembles a big rod bearing and how do you set the thrust? I've done the hoover mods on my stroker mainly cause it made sense in my imagination why Bob did them but it is an extra step. That's going to be a fun build!

The bearings are split on all the mains except for the #4 ( pulley) bearing. The thrust from my understanding is set just like you set the thrust on the camshaft, it looks just like a big double thrust cam. I know that some people have the case modified for a center thrust setup that adjust with bronze shims but that is a whole nother league of motor.

You said, "86mm crank." Is this correct and is it what you intended to say? The reason I ask is because I used to be big into the VW scene many years ago and now I've come back. Things have certainly changed. But, as I recall, the longest stroke I remember anyone running was an 82mm. Combined with a 94mm bore would give 2275cc. ....I think. Jeez, I just can't remember. LOL. You're talking 2286cc so my next question is; What bore would give you that when combined with an 86mm stroke? This was a great video. ...a real eye opener.

Yes 86mm crank. These cases have more material at the top allowing for larger strokes. 92 bore with an 86 stroke makes 2286cc. They now sell thick wall 92's that use the 94mm case and head bore making a really thick cylinder wall. Hope this helps

EZGZ wasn't impressed with the CB performance aluminum case. He return it back to CB. I'm not sure if he did a video showing all the reasons why.

I have no idea why he would not use it. From my first impressions the CB case is of good quality. I have yet to measure it but I don't for see it being out of tolerance. I could see not using it if you were doing a total stock show car( would not look right) or a experimental aircraft ( to heavy).

I saw the video. The space for the lifters was not milled. CB told him to go to a local machinist. EZ said no they are not set up for that. Then sent to case back to CB and ended the project
