I’ve been hooking up CB radio’s since they hit the market around 1975. This guy reminds me of the days when drivers would be excited about their CB radio’s. I can see and hear him talking about certain things he hasn’t learned yet. One of the things he’s gonna learn in the future is that those antenna quick connects won’t last. He’ll start hearing other drivers tell him he’s breaking up and snap, crackle, and popping. Throw that crap in the trash. I understand the 3 foot antenna won’t hit as many trees but it’s only good for talking local. He’s correct about the factory coax not being any good. NEVER mount a CB radio with screws. Especially an expensive CB like that one. I could go on about a few other things but I won’t. His radio is getting out right now at this moment but his set up is gonna be high maintenance. 😏

Thanks for posting this. Was recently assigned a 2009 Pete tandem box that had the antenna and coax already in place. Instead of trying to thread the new stuff through the mirror mount and into the cab I am going to use your suggestion. It seems a whole lot less headache.
@rickydamndiesel7 жыл бұрын
+DanTDrac yeah, I've never had an issue but just keep an eye on the swr witch you probably do already. I been running mine that way for many years with no problems.

Where did you find your mounts at? I have a spec built 2019 337 rollback with the studs and cover but haven’t looked up in there just popped the cover off. Company has owned it since 2020 bought the truck took it to Atlanta wrecker to build it I started driving it with 87k miles on it beginning of 2023 previous driver solely was the boss and he never took it out of town.

Kick'n, you gave me another idea to look into. I left a comment in one of your other vids. I am thinking of a fold down antenna mount so I do not break or damage the antenna for local use, but I like the idea of a quick disconnect to put on a roadway antenna. Thanks for you time helping us out with your vids.

The company I work for has 7 peterbilt and 5 won't work with D104 power mikes. Changed two antennas for oil filed with a 1.1 swr match. Stock mike is low Cobra 29LTD, mike gain at noon and power at 2 on the power mike? sometimes works fine. Other two trucks just squeals. One truck works great. Tried the power mikes on the truck that works great and they too work great. Thinking its a ground issue.

The absolute best thing to do is spend the extra $20 to set your SWRs unless you know how to do it yourself with an SWR meter. Doesn't matter if you run single or dual antennas. I always prefer dual set up,but the main factors are. #1. make sure you have a good quality coaxial cable. At least 18' in length. #2. Have a quality antenna or 2 with stingers to easily have SWR"s adjusted properly to your truck. #3. Make sure that no matter what CB radio you decide to go with, definitely spend the extra $$ to have it peaked and tuned by a reputable CB technician. Once you do all that, you'll have great transmit and receive. Not trying to contradict anyone. I'm just saying what i know. If you spend just a little extra money on your CB system you'll spend less in the future with CB problems. I've been playing with CB's since i was 14 years old and I'm 42 now with 23 years of running great CB's in all the semi trucks I have driven. I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. God Bless...

I have the same radio tuned and moded by hardDrive baddest MOFO period. Also I have a cobra 29LX w/ ranger mic. And a Dimond K400S 2 axis hood mount with RG316 Teflon coax cable with a 4 foot Wilson 2000 coil antenna SWR is under one. Range on bad days in the city is around 20 miles, but when DX opens up .....I say hello from the west coast to the east coast.

I got a 2012 peterbilt and I can't seem to find a good spot to mount my mike. Like the gear keeper. I'm trying to mount it in the ceiling somewhere. But I need kind of a stud for the screw to screw in. Have you got any idea
@MrStingray1864 жыл бұрын
You should run the cable through the mirror arm and up the A pillar into the over head or through a rubber grommet in the upper cab as the professionals do. Coax in the door jam is halfass at best and will kill that radio if the SWR goes high from a short by a crimp in the jam over time. Been there done that never again

I’m picking up a General hp40 tomorrow do you think I can get away with running it to my post on the dash of a 2019 Freightliner? I have a 25 amp fuse in the fuse box that runs the cb. I might pick up the smaller Stryker I believe it’s the 479 I’m trying not to have to hook direct to my battery. I can’t find anyway to get the power cord through the firewall to the battery
@jrwhitehurst54115 жыл бұрын
There should be an opening in the firewall that you can push the wire through and it will come through under the dash on the bottom left side.

Berny_Evobeard run ten guage up from your batteries with 30A in line fuses. Run some good RG-8X coax or RG-213 I'm running the same radio as you. My radio works excellently with the Browning BR-78 antennas 👍 low maintenance radio as well audio monster!!!

I have a galaxy dx 94 hp. I also drive a 2012 peterbilt do you know if I could use the stock post in the truck for that radio 📻 what do you think 💭 brother. Right now i run 🏃 a galaxy dx 45 mp lower watt radio. I also use the stock antenna cables and coax. And it's been good to me 👍 I be skipping all day long with the 45mp it's not 💯 % clear the single comes and goes and when conditions are really really good they sound 🔊 like they my neighbors. But I haven't plugged into the 94hp it has more power and I don't want to burn anything. So let me know please if you know that it will be fine plugged into the stock post. Thank you 73!! 10-4 roger I'm out. Be blessed.

+jeggersiv my favorite antenna by far! Everyone wants to look cool, but if you want performance you have to try em out. Not to mention they're a whole lot cheaper than a big coil antenna. I'll do a video soon. I run a 6 foot skipshooter on my mobile and a 4 foot on my big truck currently.

@@rickydamndiesel your definitely right on about skipshooters antennas I use to run dual 4 ft SS on my Kenworth day cab t 800 with the older style west coast mirrors and what was even more surprising I got away with 9ft cophase coax with excellent SWRS of 1.1 across the board I'm a trash hauler here in Chicago and going into landfills alot of bouncing and vibration is tough on the bigger antennas like the Wilson t 2000 I'm currently using I've lost stingers because of the vibration and shaking I'm about to go back to the skipshooters they have an adjustable tip looks like a nail I recall but all in all they are a great antenna PEACE FROM CHI TOWN

@@ciaranmcmanus3840 8 or 10 ga is good for two reasons....One is purely cause of the length of wire,long distence means you need a bigger ga wire for voltage drop over distence..2 It allows more power to the radio so that you get more out,up to radios max limit..
