CB1100 - swapping my OEM brake pads for Brembo sintered

Brembo sintered pads for my CB1100 to give it a little extra stopping power. The stock Nissin pads/calipers aren't too bad but I wanted a little extra out of my front brakes. It could of been any brand HH pads but Brembo were on offer when I went looking. Brembo pads were 07HO45SA

Hello there. I just wanted to make sure you said the pins are spec’ed to 17NM and the bolts to 31NM and if you knew it in Ft Lbs? I was wondering if you knew the torque specs for the rear brakes? I’ve been looking around for a shop manual online but at the moment they’re all $100 or more and I can’t really afford that at least right now, so I figured I ask to get clarification? Lol

Front Caliper Mounting bolts TORQUE 31 N·m (3.2 kgf·m, 23 lbMt) and Pins TORQUE:17 N·m (1.7kgf·m,13 lbMt). Rear Caliper bolt 22 N·m (2.2 kgf·m, 16 lbMt) and pins the same as the front. Torque the pins after the mounting bolts. Good luck.

How do you clean the exhaust pipes. My CB1100 pipes are discolored coming out of the head till about 2 ft down the pipe?

The 2017 onward bikes were chromed. No polishing required!

I thought the paste is supposed to go on the back of the brake pads, not the bolts?

Paste only on the back of pads if they squeal, most bikes don’t need any on the back of the pads.

I recently purchased a 2017 CB1100ex with a 1,000 miles. The front brakes squeal loudly when coming to a stop. I joined a CB1100 forum and they say no one has solved the squealing front brakes. Members telling me to quit using front brake at 10mph when stopping and finish rear brake only. I'm not that coordinated. I moved up from a 1997 Kawasaki ZL600. The ZL was a beauty with no issues. Figured CB1100ex would be light years ahead with ABS and fuel injection. Besides squealing brakes, the CB motor vibrates at 4300 rpm and tail light rattles. Any experience with these problems? Would the the Brembos solve the squealing? Do the Brembos put brake dust everywhere? I drive a Dodge Challenger Hellcat with Brembos and the brake dust is so bad that we use black rims on the vehicle. I bought this motorcycle in part from your great videos. Please help a yank out.

Well Doug I’m sorry to say the Brembo pads didn’t stop the squealing either and stop on rear only is the answer 😬. The vibrations are par for the course for many four pots but I will say quite pronounced at the revs you mention on the CB. I have learnt to cruise under those revs which is easy to do with the gearing or enjoy the vibrations with some spirited riding by running right through that part of the rev range. It is what it is I’m afraid 🤷‍♂️.

Thank you for your reply and honesty. Since my 1997 Kawasaki had none of these "quirks" you have to wonder why Honda would sell a motorcycle with them in 2017. Continuous improvement and all. Had I known about this I probably would have picked something less retro. I've owned Hondas before dating back to a 1974 CB450 and even a 1973 CL70 as my first motor bike loving every minute. I guess I'll just have to accept these quirks to be part of their personality and learn to ignore it. I do love the styling, the gear ratios and the quick effortless starting of the CB1100ex. If you ever learn of a fix for these quirks, would you please post a video? Thanks again. Your appreciative follower in Texas.

How about the rear caliper? Still stock brake pad or you already change to the brembo sintered?
