CB500X Off Road Blocked Trails and Rocky Tracks

Out on another off road adventure on the CB500X and came across a number of blocked tracks which was unusual. I also got to ride some great rocky tails. The drone is back to normal which is good.

I have an Africa Twin and at 60 I am starting to feel the weight, my dealer just got a 500x and though I know I will have to make some modifications to set it up for the way I ride I have been thinking about going lighter. Your video just sealed the deal for me, 500x it is lol

Hi thank you for the comment, I have a low rider which I ride quite a bit. Smaller bikes are a lot of fun on the back roads and dirt tracks. A lot of people buy bigger bikes that are harder to manage and pick up and end up never going anywhere the harleys wouldn't go. Thanks for watching

This is awesome! Your technique is getting brilliant - throttle and clutch control, letting the bike move under you - this is really top shelf practice. I'm admiring your longevity standing on the pegs. At 62 I have to work on my leg strength to be able to do that - squats and I pedal slowly on an exercise bike whilst standing up. Do you do anything for your riding fitness?

Hi Captain, I hope all is well. Thank you for the comment. The bike is great fun to be fair, I rode a lot of trials over the years which has helped a lot with this bike. I injured my knee a little while back trying to do wheelies on a push bike (I know lol) so I haven't been doing much exercise recently but need to start building my fitness again. Rowing machines are great they build all the muscles you need at the same time without impact on the joints. Ride safe Trevor

Fantastic video! I've owned a CB500x before but never went full RR and regret not trying to do so to see what the bike could do. How tall are you and does the bike fit well if you're closer to 6ft? Have you compared to the T700 or DR650? How do you like it compared to those?

Awesome trail ride man... I see you got spokes wheels setup 19 at front and 17 at back, can you tell me which rims setup are these? Even the new 2022 model got 19 at front and 17 at back but alloy wheels.. The only upgrade is twin discs and USD forks and lighter alloy wheels.

Hi I got the wheels made from Rally Raid in the UK it took a long time but got them in the end. The 2014 model has a 17" front. I also got the the Rally Raid front suspension kit 2 which raised the ground clearance and gives more suspension travel for the forks Thanks for watching

This isn’t really what this bike was built for, correct? After many years of not riding I’m hoping to get back at it. This bike looks perfect for mild off road but we all know “mild” off road can turn on you in a second. Though on a slim female with not a lot of upper body strength but who wants to spend maybe 50/50 dirt-asphalt exploring the less traveled areas of the US and Central America. I’ve considered Crf300 l and Rally, the new vapor ware CRF300L s, Versys 300s and even a te 350. HELP!! 😅

Hi Ann thank you for the comment, I have brought the CB500X to some pretty tough spots including the Sahara, the High Atlas Mountains in Morrocco, the Mountains in Spain, and all over Ireland and it has not let me down. The 300l is a good bike but as with all bikes, if you wish to push the limits mods will need to be made. Good to hear you are back on a bike. best of luck with your exploring. Thanks for watching

Great video. I am thinking of moving down from my AT to the cb500x with rally raid. The only hesitation I have is that I have heard the position of the pegs results in an uncomfortable standing position - too far over the bars - which can get tiresome if you are on the pegs all day. What are your thoughts on this? In this video your body position does look fairly crouched forward which is of course exactly appropriate for the type of technical terrain you are riding. But do you think this would be comfortable riding for long days of adventure touring?

Hi @@DiscoveryMotoADV , excellent I bought the bike for a trip to Morocco and wanted something that I could easily customise, great fuel range, low center of gravity (not top heavy), and works well on long distances on and off road. The bike hasn't disappointed to be fair (Morocco trip postponed unitll September due to Covid) and I am surprised how good it has turned out plus it's a Honda so it will go forever and is easy to get parts for anywhere in the world. I don't want to over sell it because different folks like bikes for different reasons but for me it turned out very well. Best of luck with which ever bike you choose. Trevor

@@solomotoadventures Don’t worry about overselling. I have been pretty sold on the RR CB500x for a while now. It hits the sweet spot for me for exactly the reasons you have mentioned and I don’t think there is anything like it out there. I have my Africa Twin dialed in pretty perfect now and when its upright, its pretty incredible but when I drop it riding solo, its an adventure just to pick it up sometimes. So I definitely want something more manageable. Reading about the peg position throwing off the standing ergos was my only hesitancy in switching to the 500x. Based on your feedback and a few others, I feel better about the ergos.

I ride a Harley for touring but an looking to the future for a shorter trip bike, off road capable. In '73 I bought a new CB450 and loved it. The 500X is an updated version of it, in many ways. Excellent video of its off road capabilities.

I bought this bike second-hand and did some modifications to improve its off-road abilities but depending on what you want to do the stock bike works well. Stalling on the rocks because your bike doesn't have enough horsepower to get over

Hi Lee, thank you for the comment. If horsepower was the issue then I would imagine 250cc trials and Enduro bikes would not get over obsitcals. It is clutch control that mostly stalls bikes which for me is harder on a heavy bike because you are also trying to hold the bike up in these situations. Thanks for watching
