Having KZbin around for this sort of thing is amazing. When I was doing all my CB750 projects in the 90's, I just had to do sort of figure this stuff out myself with whatever bit of help Chiltons and Haynes had to offer. These days we can watch guys like Peter here, and it's fantastically helpful.

Peter, the red tubes (the straw on the WD40 can) can be made more narrow by warming it carefully at some point until it almost melts. Then you carefully pull it apart and elongate it as well as making it thinner. Then just cut it where it has the diameter you want. I've used this trick when I want to be able to spray into tiny holes or very precisely direct where the stuff goes.

Looking good Pete, a tip for cleaning carb jets, i wind a single strand of wire off a bike brake cable , it's small enough for even the smallest pilot jets and the gentle spiral left in the cable helps clean out the jets without damage Cheers Steve

I had a brand-new 1978 CB750K, and yep, it had a stiff throttle...I fixed that with a wire extension on the throttle springs. I rode it for about 5 years, then sold it to my brother-in-law. He put about 75,000 miles on it, then it was wiped out by someone who ran a red light (he was not seriously injured).

Thank you for another great video Peter, I know what you mean about the carb kits, I can get 3 different ones for my Superdream and looks like I may need 2 for each carb to make sure I get everything I need. I think the cafe racer project would be a good one for the channel if it's something that interests you enough to put the money in to. It's nice to see the variety on the channel, such as the project bikes and the more modern cars as well as the classic car projects, they all have things to teach and interest people without really stirring up the vehicle rivalries (Ford vs Holden in Oz, Ford vs, well, everything in the US...)

Nice vid as usual; 2 notes, or questions. 1. The choke shaft is a rather loose fit through the carb bodies and dust can get sucked into engine through this clearance. I seem to recall that there are felt washers on the shaft to act as filters. 2. I thought I saw you pull tiny o-rings out of the hole for the mixture screws. Did not see you put them back in.

Best to reuse the original jets and needles. Unless you buy genuine Keihin of course... $$$ and I don't think the pilot jets are available. Aftermarket brass parts are just not very good. Some other cleaners are better than solvent for jets, I use "simple green" with some success. The side holes in the main and pilot emulsion tubes are not critical. Once you get some opening through the metering holes thread can be run through and used to polish the orifice.

+DW Macaulay I totally agree, there are a lot of companies that are targeting the "classic" market with substandard parts of all types because there is less regulation over parts quality and material standards for older vehicles whereas the parts for modern vehicles have to be at least as good as the original if not better...

Your old machine should play videos but they might be slow if played in a really high resolution and your hardware can't keep up. Install www.cccp-project.net codec pack you just need the compression decompression software installed for windows media player to work. You can also install VLC media player it comes with a bunch on these included.

It's not too hard to see why some people, even those familiar with car carbs, find these Japanese bike carbs a nightmare to work on. On the up-side, these Keihin units are top-quality kit and, as long as they haven't been utterly wrecked by ham-fisted fiddling or corroded to pieces, a lot of the parts can be re-used in a rebuild...
