Paul is always so genuine. In conversation, he surfs on sincerity, avoiding the rocky shoals of insincere and glib platitudes.

Giamatti is one of very few actors I will watch unconditionally. I don't care what the film is or what the TV series is about. If it has Giamatti in it it's likely going to be good and worth checking out.

I loved PG’s insight into the armour that intellectuals/teachers hide behind, that masks their insecurities and damage.

Gee, Tom, any private school with any history in Canada is like this. There are tons of them. Here on Vancouver Island I can think of at least 4 in my rural area.

Yeah, I'd guess (and hope) that _The Holdovers_ (2023) will be a beloved future Christmas classic, In the way that _Planes, Trains & Automobiles_ (1987) is now. ❤❤ ( Oh, and maybe _The Ice Storm_ (1997) as well! They're all such beautiful, Humane & funny movies! )

20:35 Woulda never thought Paul Giamatti would know, let alone be a fan, of Glenn Howerton from It's Always Sunny! (an underrated actor on a top sitcom that never got its flowers at the awards)

The Graduate came out in the 1960s. Don’t you think if you’re interviewing movie actors that you should know something about movies? Geez…. The cinematography, credits, etc., were so 70s that I got it immediately, and was totally amazed by it. So many movies trying to capture the past put it in your face and practically scream “Look at me, I take place in the early 70s.” That also includes TV series like Mad Men and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. This movie was much more natural about it, not showy. Costumes, hair, makeup - all top-notch. Great period soundtrack, too.

Paul’s father was a major academic, a world class scholar of Renaissance literature. He was also commissioner of baseball, as is stated here. He banned Pete Rose from the MLB. Later, Rose (who I personally think should be in the Hall of Fame) admitted to gambling in baseball after denying it for years. Anyway, that’s a powerhouse father-son. Father would’ve been proud!
