What a wonderful person. My father died about a month ago to Leukemia; I couldn't bring myself to play God of War (story of a son trying to save his father, essentially) because I felt like it would be too much. Watched Pinocchio instead and was absolutely destroyed. Don't think I've ever cried so hard. With that said it made dealing with his death so much easier- I felt everything he says here about death being inevitable and "beautiful" and accepting that life continues and how we live on in story. Perhaps one of the most genuine creators out there.

Love, love , love this interview. I don't know if it's because I'm Mexican but, I really understand the way he describes his way of thinking, that I agree with him 100%. The older we get, life and death's perceptions change and at the same time, remained the same. The fear about death (thank God) diminishes and/or disappears. I'll be watching Cronos and his version of the new Pinocchio movie . It's kind of weird that just before I started watching this video, I noticed a red bag, next to my bed, given to me by "Specialty Auto Works" store (now closed) named Chronos. Hummm. Great video. Congratulations to the both of you.

This movie (and del Toro) is amazing, so touching. Pinocchio reminds me so much of my son...he has a free, curious spirit and could easily be characterized as naughty or disobedient. But he is one of the most loving, empathetic children I've ever met and his inclination to question things or stray off course doesn't seem to come from a place of rebelling for no reason, but out of sheer curiosity and a lust for life. I cried throughout the movie because it felt so close to my heart 🤍🤍

there is a couple frames in this movie that are so powerful that it can be a painting. its when we get a lonely geppetto obviously heartbroken walking alone in the rain then to our right we see a bunch of posters of fascism then under a picture of Mussolini bearly visible we see a happy Pinocchio and he has to move the poster of Mussolini out of the way to see his son. what i get from it is that you have to move hate out of the way and accept love, God this is so beatiful Thank you Guillermo this was truly wonderful

GDT is eloquent as always here and his ideas on his Pinocchio are really quite strong. I wish they were as strongly conveyed in the film as it is here through Del Toro talking about it. I just think as time has gone one, he's lost a bit of his edge and is a bit clumsier when it comes to making his films. I find myself liking sequences and ideas in his later work more than the actual show or film itself. I think all his films post-Pan's Labyrinth suffer from a host of issues from dialogue, pacing, narrative, and tone that don't seem to be improving or correcting itself. Despite his eye for design being as strong as ever, his current work certainly lack a finesse and polish I think his earlier stuff had (certainly his first three films).

Watching the movie I can see how you could paint disobedience as a virtue. But it’s not. Obedience is a good thing, depending on who and why. And we can see that the two main villains tried to get Pinocchio’s obedience through fear and intimidation. But his father wanted obedience through love and trust. That’s not a bad thing at all
@Kyrieru
@Kyrieru Жыл бұрын
I'd say that the best way to put it for Pinocchio is that you should follow your conscience. There are reasons to disobey when obedience would mean doing something that you know is wrong. Everyone should have the humility to know that they can be wrong, and it's also the case that no authority is morally infallible.

Del Toro's idea of Disney feels weird to me. Like, Pinocchio was a quite dark movie of Disney's but Bambi was very sanitized compared to the source material and while the scene where he loses his mom might be jarring and scary as a kid... it's like, immediately followed by a disgustingly saccharine song and most of the movie really doesn't explore or acknowledge very heavy topics, with that death standing out as one of maybe two moments in the film. (I know that it was Tarantino who made the comment about Bambi, but Del Toro seemed to agree with it).
