I think he's speaking of Camell Laird shipyards. My father worked there as an apprentice draftsman, just after the war.

Newcastle ship yards, but they all had the same fate in the end, Am from Liverpool myself, Boaty mc boat face is near completion at lairds i think

John Matthias the yard at the end of his street was called the Neptune Yard, was owned by Swan Hunters. My dad did his apprenticeship there about 10 years before the play is set.
