Globally, one in six people (that’s 1.3 billion, or a whopping 16 per cent of us) has a disability. 1.3 billion people face exclusion, discrimination, inequalities and injustices - we can and must do better.
We all have a role to play in ensuring the most marginalised among us are heard, represented and able to participate. We all have a role to play in shaping our societies, listening to and acting on the needs and priorities of people with disabilities, to ensure no-one is left behind.
To move beyond inclusion and towards equity for people with disabilities, we must partner with them and representative organisations to ensure their voices, needs and priorities are
being heard. International Day of People with Disabilities amplifies the voice and priorities of people with disabilities, so that we can move beyond inclusion, towards equity.
