Religion is about a relationship. In the case of the Christian religion it is about a relationship with Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit. This whole talk of spirituality versus religion really goes way back to the beginning of Christianity and certain heresies. Jesus did not preach against religion, He preached against hypocrisy in religion, particularly amongst its leaders. In fact, He said, ‘...The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.’ ~ Matthew 23:2-3 (KJV) The Lord commanded the people to follow the (Godly) religious teachings, but do not become pious hypocrites like them. Christ allows us to have a personal relationship with the Heavenly Father, especially because of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, to help conform us into the image of Christ. However, He did not abolish religion. For example, taking communion in remembrance of Him is a wonderful religious experience. Yet, those who are living in (unrepentant) sin should not take communion. Jesus did say if we love Him we should keep His commandments. I begin to close with the following from James, who wrote, “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” ~ James 1:26-27 (KJV) Religion is about God establishing standards for us, to include defining our relationship with Him. Many who claim to reject religion in favor of a relationship are attempting to dictate to God how they will relate to Him.

There is a difference between believing in Jesus as the Messiah and professing Him as such. The Samaritan woman at the well believed and went to her village to profess she had an encounter with the Christ (John 4). Sadly, others believed and did not stand up for their faith in the Lord, which resulted in 2,000 years of hardheartedness: o “These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that He was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.” ~ John 9:22 (KJV) o “These things said Esaias, when he saw His glory, and spake of Him. Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on Him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.” ~ John 12:41-43 (KJV) Sadly, there are many “closet Christians” who say they believe yet do not profess Christ as their Savior and Lord. Many call Him Savior, for “fire insurance” purposes, but do not let Him be Lord over their lives. There are many prophecies pointing to the timing of the birth of Christ, such as in Daniel 9:20-27. It is sad when people are waiting for an opportunity that has come and gone. Tragically, because so many have rejected the real Christ, they will get what they desire, the antichrist.

Kristina that's not what she said. She said it was written from an "Eastern mindset". We are westerners, and to understand it, we need to look at it from an "Eastern perspective". The Bible was not written in English. In case you don't understand this, Yeshya (Jesus) was Jewish, and so we're ALL of the Apostles. The patriarchs were Hebrew. The Bible got it's texts from the Scrolls which were written down by Hebrew and Jewush scribes. English and Latin didn't even exist at the time

laynn 10 great argument for Lee Strobel, but we shouldn't depend on "educated" men to reveal the Father's Word to us. The Gospel is so simple that a child can understand it. If we don't believe after prayer and reading, we have no faith anyway. The western church (Catholics, Protestant) have corrupted the Word of YHWH, and the teachings of Yeshua. Israel is not the holy land. There was never a land called Israel. Israelites settling in a land that had people living in it doesn’t make it Israel.
