Gotta be honest, I absolutely adore the BK7. During my service in the military it was one of my best friends out in the wilderness. I'm not sure if I will ever find another knife as versatile and useful as this one. Masterpiece! =)

Tac... for my 27 year old son at Christmas, I outfitted my BK-7 with a great kydex sheath and G10 orange and black scales from the knifeconnection, and added a BK-16 knife with similar knifeconnection G10 handles as a companion knife. He is stoked, and thinks this is a great system for him with his folding saw and tomahawk. Thanks for showing us the BK-7. Thanks for all of your reviews... keep it real, bro! Keep beating at them!

I purchased the bk7 a couple years now, very popular blade with a lot of reviewers, especially Chris Tanner, but I dislike the blade design entirely. Does everything you need a knife to do, just don't like the swedge.. Opted for micarta scales on mine, and stripped off the coating and put a 90 degree spine on it to strike a ferro rod, now it's a complete survival blade. I also have the bk2, customized it too. I have the bk9, and bk16 customized all of them with micarta scales. Polished them to a mirror finish, they look like custom knives today... As always thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinion on this very popular blade, I appreciate it sir.

+Tactical What I do with these handles is grind some traction into them. I did the same with the micarta handles in my Ontario RD7. It works with Kraton and Grivory too. I just grind shallow criss-crossing groves into the handles that provide traction

+Tactical Thanks for the awesome review. My favorite knife. I spent about an hour, maybe a little longer, with a wood burner with a pointy tip and stippled the grips. Made the handles 100% better. No slipping what so ever. Didn't even have to take the grips off the knife. Yeah the sheath is cheap but it does work and I have a fire kit in the pocket on mine. Some day I will buy a nice kydex sheath.

Gotta love that series of blades. All of them have a massive following. I think the high saber grind is absolutely the best for splitting wood and if convexed the best for chopping and cutting. I always wondered if the Grivory handles could be stippled like a Glock with a soldering iron? That would fix the slippage.

Say Heah Tac't, I left mine stock, I also paired mine with the BK-17 and added the Swabbie to it since it is a little lite to chop with, especially to stay warm and process firewood, I never had hand problem with slippage, I guess the large size fits good, I mean I wear a large glove so it fit's my hand good, Maybe small would slip more again small hands, Regardless it is a good knife. ,, ,, ,,

Oh yeah, the factory optional micarta grips are absolutely worth it. They are a tiny bit thicker overall than the stock plastic grips. But the difference is very slight. If anything, it makes the grip feel even better.

Hey Brother Tac! Great review of a knife I've been considering for awhile now! Got to thinking about those handle scales and came up with the idea of getting some of those traction appliques you can apply to the floors of shower stalls and cutting some pieces to fit the handle scales. Use a black permanent marker to color them in. Bonus - they won't peel off when wet! Just a thought.

You could try stippling the scales, kinda what is done with polymer mags and pistol frames. I stippled NY Kershaw OSO for the same tractions issues and it worked great. Not sure if grivory stipples well or not, but if you are gonna put micarta scales on there is not really much to lose if the stippling doesn't pan out.

Instead of the ranger band, try some tennis racket grip tape. Wilson makes some and others do too. It works on any knife or hatchet. This tape has two purposes. No slip, less shock. Just like in a tennis racket. Also dump the factory sheath and get a custom Kydex one for it, from Red Rhino Customs or whoever your favorite Kydex source is. This knife is a beast.

Those Beckers are good knives. Good steel with a good heat treat, good blade geometry, not too thick 3/16 is plenty good, and I love that the edge angle on them is not too obtuse, but more like 20 degrees or close to that, but still they keep a good edge stability regardless. Great handle design (bad material). I have a BK9 so I'd love to see you do a not so quick review of that one please Mr Tac. use it use it hehehe Oh and I put Wilson tennis tape on mine and it don't move. Just start at the self guard and overlap your tape a bit, then put a drop of super glue (on the tape not the handle) at the end of the wrap and it'll never go anywhere.

In that size range 6 to 7 inches i have the esee6, rat7, rd6, and bk7. Id trust the bk7 with my life first. Then the rd6. The bk7 only has 1 equal ive tried in that size: The architect 6.5! I live in Washington and take multiple knives in the field to test. In Washington during rainy season you have to baton to get dry wood. Rains almost every day there. You need relatively thick pieces of wood to get dry wood. 4.5 or more inches. Hard and wet wood often. The esee 6 and rat 7 hung up. The bk7 plowed through. As far as blades snapping i dont know that its the best or not at not snapping. Esee6 has the best garauntee but that means nothing if it cant perform the task. It stands to reason that since you never know what environment you will end up in you need a knife to handle such a situation. This could have been life or death for someone. Believe it or not the rtak 2 and sp 5 couldnt get through ONLY the bk7
