The Prison Industrial Complex is all linked to bail reform because there isn’t enough money to satisfy pension obligations or maintain safe staffing. In a nutshell: NY doesn’t have enough money to do the right thing due to being poorly-managed. Even if NY Dem politicians pretended to care about crime affecting quality of life, the money isn’t there. A few years ago they tried coming up with a scheme to allow retirees to keep working full time, but there wasn’t enough money. Basically… you could retire, pension would go into an untouchable account, and draw regular salary for five years. NY was in trouble way before bail reform and the illegal immigrant issue. I, like every other internet economist, have nothing to offer except spend less. 😔

Depends. The scooters can be completely different from a motorcycle. The people getting gixxers and avoiding tolls, spreading down the highways doing young people on sport bike things aren't up to the same shenanigans as criminals on a moped snatching chains. Scooters made in China are pretty cheap to buy. They can be easily bought via mail-order and never registered. Obviously, criminals being criminals, many are probably stolen, too. There are a bunch of very low-cost dirt bikes available via mail-order which are also made in China as well as higher quality ones that are stolen.

A felony for driving on the sidewalk if done in the commision of another crime. The same way that if you collude with someone to commit a misdemeanor crime the act of you colluding in a felony. So if you agree with others to drive on the sidewalk you commit a felony by agreeing

This is not just a NYC problem, it's nation wide, even in smaller cities like here in Colorado. The difference here is that older, "real" motorcycle riders take them on and bike shame them out of existence.
