For those too young to appreciate the context, this story was broadcast during the Middle East oil crisis of the 1970s when gas prices were soaring and gas was limited enough that rationing was implemented. There were lines of people trying to buy gas. People had also become critically aware of pollution and its effect on the environment. The EPA has just been created. Though greenhouse gases were not yet an imminent threat and plastic pollution of the oceans wasn't nearly as severe as it is now, pollution was practically uncontrolled with air and water often heavily polluted similar to what China is now experiencing.

Alot of big citys burned trash letting fumes go that were lead laden .lead in the environment caused falcon and eagle eggs to be to thin and most predator birds died, rats and snakes were everywhere in tha 70s due to them not being eaten by those birds .

This story provides more than a little timeless commentary on us as humans. Mr. Driscoll is a great example of the crass, crude, selfish, vain and foolish business personality and attitude I despise. Who wouldn't?
