I am a 23 yr old from New Zealand and I want to learn Estonian and travel there! I learnt how to speak Russian, and that's how I was introduced to Estonian culture, but it is awesome in itself. Such a beautiful language - and funky music. Something about Estonia is just cool. I hope to visit there soon!

Tallinn is just a fairy tale town. So beautiful and cosy. But do visit Russia as well while you're in our hemisphere! A tad bit bigger country ;) , lots to see and experience.

Visited Estonia last year for work & found it so peaceful & interesting.. Tallin was so cool & interesting.. the countryside was so calming & beautiful in its own way. I would like to go back for vacation some day. These tunes remind me of a great vegan cafe I had lunch in one day & they were spring tunes like these..

The thing is that Estonian is not Indo-European, like English, German, Italian or Russian. It's Fenno-Ugric (like Finnish, Hungarian, and languages of some ethnic groups in northern Russia), and therefore is completely different.

As a Brazilian, I could know less of Estonia despite have knowing a compatriot of that descent (believe, Brazilians with Estonian roots are very, very rare). What I can notice by this playlist is that they have a taste for classy tunes and what my surprise to hear a version of "Só Danço Samba" in that idiom and notice how well the metric of the verses was matched to the words of that idiom.

The call and response style of singing seems to be popular in Estonian folk songs. I have run into various groups that still sing like this.
@kertut44074 жыл бұрын
You're right, it's a traditional way of singing in Estonia called 'regilaul'. And they're actually repeating the lead singer not responding. It's a continuous process with turns for a leader and the chorus: one person sings a verse, the others join at the last syllables and repeat the verse, then a leader sings again, etc. Presumably this pagan tradition 2 or 3 thousand years old.
