I turned 11 in 88, I started playing sports and started winding down with playing with toys (10 years later I would start collecting again) and even started noticing girls. The one thing I never stopped doing was watching cartoons, that's one thing I've never taken a break from and never will. This channels my absolute favorite

This is beautiful. I remember this lineup. I was 10 in 1988. Great memories, best Saturday mornings, excellent Saturday afternoons with neighborhood friends or bike riding during a time in my favorite childhood house. I miss those times. I like how we can recreate our old Saturday morning routines with the material you put out here. I made it a point back in 2020 watch cartoons only on Saturday mornings and revisit my old childhood Saturday morning routine. The strong nostalgic vibes I get are like a drug. Thank you for what you do. Please keep churning out more if you can.

I also remembered the ruby spears version of the superman cartoon as well. Even though I didn’t really watch it much when I was a kid to the best of my memory, I definitely do remember it. The music is very familiar and I knew for certain that it was created by Ruby spears productions because that music was the same as the centurions back in 1985.

I remember the Dunkin’ Donuts cereal! I believe I had it at least once and it was very very different. As far as I can recall, there were two bags in one box and one of them held chocolate flavored cereal pieces, and the other held strawberry cereal pieces.

1988-89 Saturday Morning overview: Just as the networks gave in to years of lobbying from parental groups and put an end to all violence on Saturday morning programs, syndicated cartoons came along offering up violence galore. This marked the beginning of the end for the golden age of Saturday morning programming. 'The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles', 'GI Joe', 'Jem', 'Thundercats', 'Strawberry Shortcake' and other cartoons started flooding local weekday afternoon schedules. Almost every popular kid show in 1988 had product tie-ins. Typically, the product came first and then the cartoon series was offered to TV stations at a loss - because the programs were just one long commercial! Parental groups became even more distressed by this new trend. By the end of the 1988-89 season, NBC talked openly about replacing Saturday morning cartoons with the 'Today Show' because they couldn't compete with violent cartoons airing on independent stations and cable. NBC finally did give up in 2001, selling their Saturday mornings to The Discovery Channel. By then, CBS had given over its Saturday morning programming to Nick, Jr.

It's interesting that Joe Ruby and Ken Spears did the 1988 Superman show, as they use to work for Hanna-Barbera before they left and formed Ruby-Spears. William Woodson does the narration here, as he did for many years on Superfriends, which, of course, was animated by Hanna-Barbera.

Great lineup, the only mistake CBS did with scheduling was should have swapped Hey Vern It's Ernest to 8:30am and putting Superman 11am, Superman would def got a 2nd season bc 830am was most young kids, this version of Superman was little too mature for them or @ least be in competition with The Majical World Of Disney as an hour long series of possible 22-25 episodes, that would be awesome!!
