I genuinely wonder if people ever get tired of their obsession with pressuring the Church to drop its teachings, to change, to conform to the modern world. It's like... no one is forcing you to be Catholic. Why be so insistent on remaking the Church in your own image? That's an evil intention.

@@Catholicscontinue Speaking as someone who grew up Southern Baptist, I admittedly have little exposure to or understanding of Catholicism. I don't mean to disrespect you or your faith, but I have to ask... You said, "we follow what God wants not what men want. God established the sacraments and the commandments. That will not change. Ever." But actually, we've seen many changes to the Gospel and changes to church doctrine (yours and mine) over the centuries haven't we? Just for example, no one really thinks the King James version of the Bible is heretical, just because it differs slightly from other versions of the Bible. "Version" necessarily stipulates "changes." And that's with the Word itself. So when you talk with certainty about the unchanging nature of the sacraments and the commandments, it seems to be without an acknowledgment of history and of how change has already touched your faith and mine in the nearly two thousand years since Christ died for our sins. The commandments in particular had to be transcribed from God's voice to a man's language, onto tablets. But the original text of the tablets have since been repeated and copied over generations in many languages. They have been studied by linguists who try to translate earlier or later copies of the commandments. The version of the commandments we read in Bibles today are the end result of countless filters, translations, and conclaves negotiating their current (possibly final) form. I'm not saying God was not always guiding this process, always giving divine clarity to the men who oversaw the journey of the commandments to our most recent version of them. But I guess I am saying for us to dismiss the fallibility of human beings and their role in bringing us the commandments as we know them today seems arrogant and haughty--human frailties that any version of Christianity understands to be perilous and ungodly.

The Church also required the questions to be submitted in advance of the meeting and (according to CBS) even returned edits to the phrasing of some of the questions to be more respectful or less confrontational. BTW, I think The Church was both justified and smart to impose these terms. The media has an anti-religious bias and it would be chronically self-destructive for The Church not to require its oversight and approval in exchange for access Pope Francis.

True Facts: Amoris Laetitia contradicts the mandate of Jesus & 2,000 years of perennial Magisterial teaching that forbids divorce & re-marriage. The end result is for adulterous couples committing sacrilege. Fiducia Supplicans condones the blessing of same-sex couples - what Cardinal Muëller rightfully calls"blasphemous". Abhu Dhabi heretically states that "God wills a plurality of religions". The list goes on & on. Does Bergoglio hate people who are in adulterous relationships and people who have same-sex attractions and people who follow false religions? He must not care about these people who are in a state of mortal sin and being led to hell. JESUS, St Paul & the Church are crystal clear about confronting and fighting against false doctrine that will inevitably come.

As a Catholic born in the 1950's we grew up with the depth of Catholic mysteries. Though we thought we we were modern and worldly here in the United States, truth is the world and other cultures were a mystery. Love the media or hate the media, the miracle of the media is how much it has opened our eyes to the world and other cultures. There is much of an information overload in our minds. Meanwhile the deepest mysteries of life are answered by an extreme right in the church that offers little new or a left that appears to ignore them.

@@MPFXT Remember we've had several popes in our lifetimes. He is more like Pope John XXIII, who was from a poor family and had a heart for the poor. Followed by Paul VI and JP II, the hardliners on theology and anti-marxists etc. Pope Francis actually had the background in science and knows how it drives capitalism plus the science-religion debate in the world. The Catholic Religion is diminishing because people won't accept religious mystery as an explanation, though the human neocortex is still a mystery.
