Glad to know that after missing for a month, Jashya was found safe. That being said, with so many resources devoted to her safe return, as should be the case in any such situation, perhaps consideration should be given to the natural curiosity of search participants, media, and the general public as to the runaway's ordeal and circumstances. Although she has been called "a resourceful 14-year-old", living for 30 days in the wilderness, unaccompanied, unassisted, is difficult to accept on its face. The stated lack of anyone directly involved, the lack of information as to how she managed to remain off the radar, unnoticed during school hours, and access money, food, clothing, and shelter is possible but troubling. There is obviously a backstory.

I disagree. Your statement is such a generalization. In the 80's there were way less means available (social media, law enforcement technology etc.,) but families who loved and cared, did all they could to find loved lost ones including self searching, talking to friends, schoolmates, etc. There was no CCTV, trails to follow via the Internet, license plate tracking, Amber Alerts, etc). Runaways would have to call home from a telephone booth when they were ready to be found for the most part.

I had to come back to this... We, as parents & a society, as a whole, have failed our children for any of them to think it's ok to run away from home either not knowing, not understanding or not caring about the constraints it puts on our law enforcement & resources and for them to not know or feel that, if something terrible is going on in their home, they can come to & rely on law enforcement/the system to act swiftly in protecting them & not sending them back to an inadequate and/or dangerous living environment. We NEED to do better.
@vancelluckforte92833 жыл бұрын
So you're saying when a kid runs away they should care about constraints on law enforcements resources? And that they should have faith that the system will protect them and won't send them back into a bad living situation at home? They are sent back into those dangerous living situations all the time. And they know they will be. They see similar things happen with their peers. Do you really think they should trust the system and further, law enforcement?
