A gratuity is at the discretion of the client for services rendered over and above the job description. It IS NOT a mandatory service charge.

Tipping in America exists because employers don’t pay a living wage.

Tipping in America exists because of sIavery and not paying freed people an actual salary...🕊

@@noble604 yeah sounds like America has a lot of freedom! Student debt, corporate greed, abysmal pay, you name it!

It’s a system that has always been built on labor exploitation. That’s what capitalism, by definition, is. Tipping was the way to further continue the labor exploitation of sIavery after sIavery “ended”. to continue to avoid paying people for their work once they were “free” from their exploitation. They weren’t “free.” They were just thrown pennies instead of nothing and that was their “wage.” People in the US today are nowhere near that “life” and it is currently not the same - let us be clear - however, that is where “tipping” comes from in the US and ,yes, there are many other methods used today to continue labor exploitation... . 🕊

It’s getting to the point where I try to do as much work for myself than have someone shake me down for extra.

Yes!!!!!! Used to be for people who don’t get a full salary, now everyone wants one, even a cashier It’s for service workers and those who are known to depend on it such as wait staff and baggage handlers
@judyostrom89729 сағат бұрын
The problem is those people should be paid a living wage and not depend on tips, so crappy employers!!!
@oooh196 сағат бұрын
Cashiers aren’t high paid workers though but they are still paid more than waitstaff generally but yea they don’t have to tip. There’s always been a tip jar at cafes and stuff though it’s not new

There are plenty of places that also don’t even give those gratuities to their employees. It just goes into their sales for the day. That is why I do not participate unless I’ve received true service and can tip directly to the server.

Won't lie. I hate having to tip and be the one to support the worker. But I keep the tips to back when the world was "normal". Hairdressers, pizza delivery, servers, etc. None of this baristas, checkout counters, online order pickups, etc.

I don’t tip. I live in California. The LOWEST PAID server is still making $17/hr. If I go out, I ask for two drinks and a water initially - so I don’t have to bug the server. That’s it. *Judge me, I don’t care*

If employers were not so freaking greedy and paid a living wage this would not be an issue!!!

I work as an aircraft mechanic for an airline, I was standing on the jet bridge and as a group of passengers were walking past me, so I turned my work tablet around and presented to the passengers,to say they looked shocked was an understatement, until I said “can you imagine, I would have to punch myself in the face” we all had a good laugh

I was ordering a pizza on line from a new pizza place by my house, selected what I wanted and before paying the website asked me for a tip, before I even knew what the service was like or even if the pizza was any good. Cancelled my order left a one star explaining why. Went to Costco and got pizza. Why am I supplementing the wages for a restaurant owner driving a G Wagon

People kept giving me crap for only tipping 10%. So now I just don't eat out. Its over priced and not that good anyways. Food quality at restaurants has gone down drastically

I don’t know about y’all, but i slam that no tip button unless it’s a service provider. Like a nail salon, hairstylist, or massage therapist

Order food online,say no to the tip, and take a chance on someone spitting or worse in your food.

And if tipping becomes income tax free, we can drop back to 10%. That's what I will do. More than 10% is ONLY for exceptional service. And I'm still known to tip 1¢ when the service is lousy. When the food is bad, I tell the manager/owner; and the service was OK, then they get the 10%. And it goes without saying, that when either the service or food is bad, I Never Go Back.

They should ban tipping. I never tipped for counter service. If they do not tax tips, then I will not longer tip. It is not my responsibility to directly pay a company's employees.
