Exploring the ethics of advanced AI assistants

Artificial intelligence assistants may soon be able to do much more than play your favorite music or call your mom, but some Google researchers warn about possible ethical dilemmas. CBS News reporter Erica Brown has more.

If you are going to have a personal assistant and confidant it has to be a relationship of trust. As a good friend I would want it to tactfully correct me in my wrong assumptions and misunderstandings, not just telling me what it thinks I want to hear.

Since this genie is out of the bottle, as part of the ethical conversation of AI; should we allow an individual who uses AI have that AI be beholden to it's corporate masters or, should that product be sole property of it's individual that is using it? In other words; Should an AI be a consumer product with the complete understanding that it's use is going to be with complete privacy and anonymity for the benefit of the consumer/ owner of that property on par with an old school diary? Another way to put it; Are we, as a society, willing to allow AI to be a data miner for the benefit of the corporations to know EVERYTHING about us and continue to collect share that information about us for profit (like our modern automobiles), as well as, potential government over reach to "control us"? Are you willing to surrender your privacy and freedom even further than what is already happening now for convenience?
