Claris Ramos actually it isnt. If borax is used right its safe to your hands. It only leads to burns when you touch the bare powder with your hands. You could just use a measuring spoon along with hot water, once it dissolves its no longer harsh on your hands. People actually used to use it and still do in their laundry.
