There's a French Quarter in SF? Really?

The French Quarter in San Francisco, also known as Belden Place, is a small but historically significant area located in the Financial District. It has a unique history that reflects the city's diverse cultural tapestry. The French Quarter began to take shape in the mid-19th century, during the Gold Rush era when San Francisco was burgeoning with immigrants from around the world. French immigrants, many of whom were escaping political unrest and economic hardship in France, settled in this area and established businesses. The French settlers opened a variety of businesses, including cafes, bakeries, and restaurants, creating a little slice of Paris in San Francisco. Belden Place, a narrow alleyway between Bush and Pine Streets, became the heart of this French community.
