You can still fly when your ID has been stolen, but you’re subjected to extra security before you’re allowed to go to your gate. One lady that I met from Kentucky was robbed of literally everything except the clothes on her back while she was in San Francisco.

Seriously! The gas stations on 98th Ave down the street from the Oakland Airport have speakers blaring telling customers to stay with their property at all times. Even going inside to pay or get a receipt is plenty of time for you to get robbed. Criminals are literally waiting IN THE PARKING LOT. Recently, a plain clothed officer responding to a series of burglaries was killed on duty. It’s incredibly difficult. For starters everybody that was screaming “DEFUND THE POLICE” a few years ago is finally getting what they wanted, there isn’t even a police chief for OPD right now & the mayor is making sure of that. She recently rejected a list of 3 candidates for the job. There is critical staffing issues and OPD can’t keep up with all the calls. And then what would be the point in even arresting burglars if the DA refuses to prosecute them because it’s “non-violent”. OPD officers have already gone on record to say those burglars are back on the streets in less than a week.

The tip off we were heading towards social decay and collapse was decades ago when we started to see homelessness being normalized and drug use of highly addictive narcotics in public normalized and considered as recreational "choices". Drug addiction is not driven by choice it is driven by compulsion. The robberies in Oakland are the result of addicts stealing to feed drug habits which were considered by the City as victimless crimes of "choice". They didn't understand the connection between narcotic use and crime even though the data 100% confirms it.

Someone with a powerful addiction isn't going to be able to work or manage finances and addiction symptoms at the same time and they need to get money for the next dose. Methadone requires verification and detox usually before being administered treatment. It doesn't necessarily mean a person doesn't want to follow rules for their dropping out. It is usually about someone relapsing..

Totally agree. I moved from NJ to CA and I hate it here! I live in the Bay Area two cities away from Oakland and I hate the California mentality. If you want law and order, then you would be considered a racist. If you fear criminals people who wear funny looking articles of clothing or sag their pants, you get called a racist. The guy that she fired last year (Laron Armstrong) was born and raised in Oakland, people respected him, and he genuinely cared about Oakland…..so of course he gets fired and hasn’t been replaced more than 1 year later. ALSO, he was cleared of ALL wrongdoing by an independent city board for what he was fired for in the first place. He’s now suing the city of Oakland and he’s probably going to win. Previously fired Oakland Police Chiefs who were fired also sued and won.
