So, podcasters can continue to omit this glaring fact, but people still see this overriding fact and underlying cause of the Steelers' loss of the top contender games! It has nothing to do with Russ's age, and his personal stats prove it! Younger talented QBs like Joe Burrow who did not get in the playoffs, but Russ did. Even with his younger age, Joe Burrow and Russ are in the same position as NFL starting QBs, trying to do their job with not enough higher level talented players who can execute plays and win top contender games ! To me, the fact that this team cannot score points in the first quarter, just as much as anything else, is what doomed them. In the modern NFL, you can't win playing catchup. The Steelers looked like they were sleepwalking through the entire first half! And the fact that they chose to receive at the start of the game shows they have lost confidence in the highest paid defense in the league! As for Wilson. He has grit, I'll give him that. But he is too short to be a pure pocket passer (can't imagine how he can see down the field over all those much taller linemen), and he is too old to be the mobile QB he was a decade ago. I certainly would not pay him 30 million to return. If he were willing to come back on a team friendly deal, maybe. We don't have a lot of choices at this point. Fields MIGHT have more upside if it comes down to one or the other. Never having a losing season means never having a good draft pick. They have too many other needs to trade the house for a top five or six pick for a QB. With only a few years left in his career I would be surprised if TJ doesn't request a trade to a true contender.

You’re absolutely right. But if your team is that devoid of talent, it is going to take several years to build. Time Russell does not have. So of you want to win now, better find a qb that can carry this team on his shoulders, or be stuck in mediocrity for another 3-4 years.

Fields had better production with regard to both time of possession and red zone efficiency. Fields' deep ball accuracy was on par with Russ. Also, the O-Line was worse earlier in the year when Fields played, exacerbated by injuries. Russ has better leadership qualities, but that didn't translate to better on-field production, over the long term. Russ simply failed to be competitive down the stretch, against playoff-level adversaries. #HereWeGo
