Thanks so much for sharing this video. My 14 year old JRT has just started doing this head twitching thing which panics him at times. I’m trying to figure out what’s going on and saw this video which is exactly how my dog is (although not as frequent) He was full of life up until 3 days ago and now just sleeps all the time and when awake seems disconnected. He’s also very blind. It helps to know someone else has been through the same so thanks again and sorry you had to say goodbye to your old boy

Commercial dog food causing bacteria growth on the teeth straight to the brain and destroying our animals! My jrt has this, changed his food improved, came back changed his food subsided came back over and over, dog toothpaste helped ease him through the night a little pea size on the finger but he is snappy to have anyone around his mouth so can’t get it in very often . Changed to raw helps but must keep the protein less than 1/3 of the meal the rest vegetables! Cheese makes it much worse tiniest bit! Greens help keep the mouth alkali so that helps also, he is 8 and I am 58 I can’t see things going on for long x I will take him to rest him if he is suffering x love to you x he is my only love my only comfort my only friend x all my family is gone my children everyone! At least I am sure when he is gone I won’t go before him and leave him to grieve or be abused x he will be safe from all that.

Many little dogs are left behind from their people dying x they would love a family to fill that loss, maybe you would consider comforting a left behind little soul x

My puppy is having these spasms too when he's about to sleep or is really calm. I think he might have a problem in his brain since he has convulsions, problem is that I can't afford taking him to do a electroencephalogram, so he's in treatment to see if his state is reversible or not.

@@deaksjd15 Hi! Doctor said that my dog had Idiopathic Epilepsy, and as soon as we changed his treatment to potassium bromide, the seizures stopped and now he is better. You should see the vet if you haven't.

@@koffito thank you for your reply! yes we've seen vet but we don't have any vet that specializes in neurology, and there's no MRI/CT machine yet here in my country. how old is your dog? and how do those spasms look like in your dog? mine is not exactly like the dog in this video but when he's sleepy sometimes his muscle jerk and his eyes kinda flickers for a split seconds. it's hard to record it cus it happens too fast

@@deaksjd15 My dog is two years old now, but when he was diagnosed by idiopathic epilepsy, he was only 3 months old. These twitches began to show up right before he had an episode of seizures. In the case of your dog, it might be normal, cause every dog experience these spams while they are sleeping. Mine does have these twitches as well. If you are really concerned, you need to start recording him. When your dog goed to sleep, stay with him for a little while and be prepared.

@@koffito I see, so he ever had grand seizure? and usually it starts with mild twitches? he does little twitches when he is lying down after running around the yard or when he's relaxing/becoming sleep. just a split seconds though. him being old makes me more concerned. but other than that he is still as active and aware as ever. sorry for asking too much it's really hard to find good vet in my country so I need to gather as much as information I could

How old is he or she? I’m starting to have signs of CCD in my 10 year old dog.

Hi, we got to more than 15 years, and then we had to relieve him of his increasing misery. He stopped eating the last day and a half, to let us know he was ready. It was very sad. But he went from being old, but normal and healthy in December, to peeing in the house in January, pooping in the house in Feb, and looking a little unsteady on his feet. And by March it was clear something was terribly wrong. He started this new form of howling-crying when we would leave the house. It was awful. In April he was walking into walls and having little convulsions in his head -- I was sure he was going to die any day, but he did not. We did find out he had a perforated ear drum, which we didn't know. He kept eating in the weirdest way -- like zoning out and falling in his food and water. I thought he may have vertigo. By May he was essentially blind -- I don't know if he couldn't see with his eyes, or he couldn't make sense of what he was seeing. He was peeing every hour two hours, and the wood floors we have were getting messed up. It was terribly frustrating situation. We were desperately trying whatever the vets were suggesting as far as (expensive) meds -- but they wanted like $2,500 MRIs done, etc, etc -- and it just didn't make any sense because it was obvious he was not going to last long. We were Googling and trying to figure out what was happening. He was getting "stuck" in corners and under furniture. In June, he was walking in circles, and "wandering" all night long, could not find comfort other than to collapse into sleep. He was still eating though, and eagerly running to see the front-desk lady who had the dog treats every day, though he couldn't see where to run to and couldn't find the food often. Him leaving bits of food on the floor was so shocking, because he was always like a Hoover vacuum of meat and cheese. One of his anal glands got infected and blew up like a balloon in a single day. It cost $500 and an overnight stay to get repaired. He healed fine, but his mind just got worse and worse and he barely wanted to move at all. His convulsions, by the last few days, were almost constant, and we were ready to face up to the decision to let him go. Finally, as we were calling around for options, he just stopped eating -- like, "Nope, I'm done. It's time, Dad. I can't take it anymore." And that was the "signal" we really needed, and we did what he had to do to relieve his misery. So, it was about 6 or 7 months from when he started peeing in the house, to when he was constantly convulsing and not eating. I still don't know exactly what happened, but his blood and urine tests were nearly all normal (some minor kidney decline). His head just unraveled and I'm glad it's over, but we miss him so, so much.

@@weinerdad Hi - do you have an email that I could ask you some questions about what you went through?
@weinerdad
@weinerdad 5 жыл бұрын
@@jruylex3 Hi. First of all, is this your little dachshund on Flicker? She is absolutely beautiful! Those eyes, so sweet. Same color as our baby boy, if so. Honestly, I'm not over it enough to talk a lot, so I would refer you to the CCD Facebook group. All of the stories that they tell there are similar -- desperately trying different drugs, but still having incontinence, wandering at night, getting lost in furniture, going blind, walking in circles, sad howling, convulsions, and finally fast breathing and loss of appetite the last 2 days. So sad. And I'm still walking into the room and calling out for him, like forgetting that he's not around anymore to get that bit of food I dropped or to come wagging his tail, or begging to be picked up. Doxies are so wonderful; almost all dogs are of course, but I dunno. I miss him terribly. Anyway, check out the facebook group -- it's a mix of advice, experiments, questions and people saying goodbye across the "rainbow bridge." 🐶😇 Best wishes -- facebook.com/groups/CanineCognitiveDysfunction/
