Thank you for this video. I have the D200, D300 and D700 so I can make an educated comparison. The D200 has the warmest colours, the D300 the coolest and the D700 is somewhere in between comparing raw images of course. The white balance is less accurate on the D300 that could make a difference too. The D300 is the sharpest compared to the D200. But you could make the same picture with all three except in low light then the D700 is still excellent even 2023. I compared the Z5 with the D700 and there was not that much differnce. The D300 is the only one with a 100% viewfinder. Keep making these videos!

Great content from you! Noticed that recently there's been many videos about the D300 .For a long time ,you would be hard pressed to find any. I only have a D300 and D700 and have only been buying and using AI/and AIs, afD lenses to compliment them.Thats how how much I love and am very content with both these cameras. Plus the use the same batteries and the mbD10, shutter release cables etc is a big bonus.

Yup, having a D700 too I can attest this is a very nice combo. Being able to share the grips, batteries, cards and have the exact same control structure and image resolution with a almost matching color science is quite nice. That's my "secondary" kit (I first got the D700 then grabbed a D300 as it was cheap as hell (around 60€) but that's one that I could use as my primary kit no problem.

Nice video. I have the Olympus e-500 (ccd) and Panasonic g85 (cmos). I havent done a big comparison between them. Just a few shots on auto, kit lenses, zoom lens at 25mm. The ccd has some nice greens and reds. Other times i think the cmos looks better... Meh! One day i want to go around town with both cameras and take pics of graffiti and compare the two

Whatever camera you are using for this video is focus breathing all over the place. The one you used for the Gear Acquisition Syndrome video did not have that problem. You moved your hands all around in that video and that camera recorded flawlessly.

Yes I used the X-T2 in the GAS video, with a single focus point roughly aimed at me. That video was shot on the X-H1 with face detection, but I keep moving in and out of the phase detect AF points, and the camera is loosing me. This is fixed in the later videos as I use either a more accurate camera or simply just stay in manual focus.

interesting comparison! 👍 one thing I noticed in your video is that the AF system your camera uses seems to hunt a bit
@uncertainrelease
@uncertainrelease 11 ай бұрын
yeah that's because a combination of factors... I usually shoot my videos at f/4 but here I had to go to f/2 otherwise I wouldn't have a bright enough image keeping the correct shutter angle I use face detection in the X-H1, which isn't always super reliable The background is sometimes the same color as my face and the camera is confused for a second I don't have a proper studio with proper lighting or a proper background (yet) so that's a thing that tends to happen regularly. I do prefer that compared to manual focus though.

@@obedbrinkman The few previous videos, I also tried to do a "less centered" framing to give room for potential images that would illustrate what I'm saying during the video, alas the X-H1 doesn't have phase detect points across the whole frame, edges are contrast detection only and that lead to the autofocus drifting quite a bit, and for a long time so I stopped doing that (even if that lead to "better videos" as far as editing goes) it's 100% a concern of mine though, you have no idea how much it annoys me to see those AF errors during editing !

I suggest using manual focusing for such materials, your continuous focus keeps hunting.

It's hard to compare CCD to CMOS in most case. Around 2007, when these cameras released, most camera in the upcoming generation at the time from all brand move from 12 bit A/D converter to 14 bit and it give different image character somewhat and they change to CMOS across the board around the same time as well if they aren't already use CMOS in the first place. I don't know in depth spec for D60 so I don't know whether it already move to 14 bit A/D converter yet but I know it get introduce to Nikon camera in D3 and D300 generation alongside EXPEED processor which D60 also featured. If it indeed also move to 14 bit already then this is the fairest comparison possible. Thank for the video.

The D60 doesn't have an EXPEED processor, it has a refreshed version of the processor that was present in the D40 and D40X, only with the addition of D-Lighting. I guess Nikon wanted to get a little bit of traction on the D60 with the good rep of the EXPEED processors thanks to the D3 and D300 cameras, and named it this way but it ain't an EXPEED. So it's most likely 12bit A/D converter (it's also not possible to select 14 or 12bit in the menus, so I'm guessing it's "stuck" in 12 bit anyway). Knowing this, I also shot the D300 in 12bit mode (12bit is the way to go with the D300 as well, there isn't any benefit to going to 14bit files (not more DR present), and it slows down the camera considerably for burst rates and write times, buffer ect.) As far as I'm concerned, the D300 is a 12bit camera more than anything else.

My first cameras were fuji super ccd sensors. As soon as I 'upgraded' to the newer cmos cameras from 2010 onwards, I could see the inferior colour rendition in the newer cameras. To this very day it has not changed, though the newer cmos cameras are better in almost all other ways. Perhaps it is just my own subjective opinion, but quite a few others seem to see things the same way also.

In the case of Fuijifilm though, they did not have CCD sensors, but Super-CCD sensors, which are VERY different from anything that has been released as far as sensor tech goes.

I like the hardwork and planning you put into your videos. Interesting comparison. I think you busted the myth about CCD sensor having better colour rendition then the CMOS. One can easily see that D300 is better colour giving 3D effect to all its images compared to D60 flat images . Probably because of better autofocus system on the D300, the images looks much sharper on D300. Just curious how much of difference we might see between D200 vs D300. By the way i picked up D200 last month from MPB for £38/- with shutter counts of 30K while the D300 is going for £100 with same shutter count. I felt it was not justified to pay thrice the amount for D300. Now i am wondering if i made the right choice or i should have gone with the D300 for the extra money. Thanks Anyways keep posting such interesting and informative contents.

There's nothing wrong with the D200, it's an awesome camera, especially at the price you got it for ! I have a dedicated review of the D300 if you want to go check it out, but in a nutshell I think this camera is extremely good for the price. Dynamic range is good, better than the D200/D60 (sensor is the same for all intends and purposes), it shoots faster and the autofocus system is a huge upgrade. Even if you're just a hobbyist, I can see how having tracking autofocus and Live View could be pretty beneficial. I picked up my own D300 with 30k shutter count for about 60€, so if you're interested in this camera, i'd definitely keep a look out, D300s on MPB at that price regularly drop

Bro, enjoyed the topic. But if I may criticize something: I highly suggest you turn off that auto focus. It's hunting back and forth like crazy. Also, edit your videos mate. You don't have to put in an endless amount of effort, but pls remove all the fillers, smacks and annoying breath sounds. Besides that, I like the content. Well done.

I went full manual focus on the following video, and since then bought a camera with proper face detection in video (and phase detect points across the frame, unlike the X-H1 that I was using for those videos until then). I'd say that thos autofocus struggles are behind us 😅 PS: comparing the D2H with the D300 would be a bloodbath lol. The D2H would win on build quality (though the D300 is clearly about as well built), but both can get the same burst rate, and the D300 does so with a much better autofocus, 3 times the resolution and much wider dynamic range as well as ISO persomance that has no comparison with the D2H. Would be a fun video to make, albeit a very short one as the conclusion draws itself. I'd love to get a D200 for testing but I don't have a use for it right now unfortunately. Maybe if I can get one for super cheap I will !

I've seen two other CCD vs CMOS videos and it seems to be just color science has changed a little from camera to camera. And CCD has a little less dynamic range so blacks and shadows are a little darker giving more contrast. Here are two videos to watch. Pentax and Olympus kept their color science almost 100% I would say its 99% the same. CCD Vs. Remove that car poster from background then you will get better autofocus, headlight from car is confusing your camera, it resembles like eyes. If your camera only has contrast dectecting autofocus then keep background light around 2 stops lower than the light in your face.
