My dog tore his ACL at six months. The vet said it would progress until he could not use his leg again and then the other leg would go out. After researching the situation, I opted not to have surgery and crated him for a month allowing him out only to relieve himself. it gradually healed. He is now seven and runs like nothing happened.

Our dog just had her second. She is recovering well. I am so incredibly thankful for this option and that we can afford to pay for two surgeries because she is essentially my husbands service dog. Cannot imagine life without her. If we ever do get another dog we will get a rescue vs another purebred springer spaniel as I’ve been told it happens less often

Great video. Am a ver surgeon performing TPLO’s and am always on the lookout for guidance/teaching materials to help clients decide if their pet needs a TPLO. This will go a long way to make understanding easier and hopefully help in the decision making. My TPLO cases all do great and have a very high satisfaction rate with my clients …. Your videos will help keep it that way. Thanks Dr Geert

Had this done to a great hunting 7 year old GSP for 4k. I was told after rehab, she'd be able to hunt again. First time out hunting , she tore the other knee, another 4k. She never hunted again. She recovered well and lived to be 16 but was not able to run anywhere close to the way she could before the injuries. She even walked differently, GSP's have a bounce to their gate when they walk, after the surgery, the bounce was gone. But she did live out a full, pain free life. It's a very difficult decision to have this surgery done.

Great video. Our baby just had both of her knees done...very hard recovery, but both were bad, and even if you do one knee...most often the other will go bad soon after. One long recovery for her, but a week out and she is doing great. She is a big girl at 85 pounds, so it has been hard on us to use the sling, and take her to go to the bathroom. She refused the collar, and the dounut..so Lick Sleeve was our answer...it's working great so far. Good luck to everyone!

My GSD had this surgery this past Wednesday (Jan 3, 2024)… the Dr was very good at explaining but I on the other hand, was having difficulty understanding. Either way I knew it was going to have to be done. We are just past the 48 hr post surgery point and she’s doing very well. With all of that being said, this video has helped me so much to understand exactly what was done and why it was needed. Total cost was around $4800, this included pre surgical visit, ex ray, meds, surgery and will also cover all post op visits.

@@mrs.i.one12 Sorry it was on the 8th june she had it done. Not sure why I put april lol. She is doing ok thanks. She has just entered the physio stage last week so id say not far off being discharged. But with her being 11 now as of yesterday (12th) she isnt as quick on her feet as she used to be anyway. But for her age id say shes doing great. Just been out for 40 min walk with her and she handled it pretty well. Still keeping her away from stairs and not letting her jump or get to excited. I have built 2 meeting ramps for the back of my house so she dosnt have to step up to get into the house and going to build one for the sofa so she can get on there without having to climb up. She can get up but id rather make it easy as can be for her. Thank you very much for asking

@@lunacielo7680 I am sure every dog is different with recovery but our dog showed signs very slowly. We massaged her coat to relax her and massaged her muscles around her thigh and upper leg too seemed to relax her. She has recently started running a bit but not for too long and then she limps a little bit but I think it’s because her muscles have been so relaxed is why she limps not because of the actual surgery. I hope your dog is ok.

CBLO is better option. A lot stronger with less chance of failure and decreased recovery time. With a TPLO your dog not jumping or running post op is crucial to its success. With a CBLO an accident or two is likely survivable.

Don't do it! Try a custom-made orthotic brace first. We had a TPLO in March. The TPLO was followed by an Extracapsular Lateral Suture Stabilization surgery in April. BOTH failed and resulted in pivot shift phenomenon and infection. All hardware was removed in May. Now awaiting a custom-made orthotic brace. Four months of pain and more than $10,000 with zero results. We're worse now than before the TPLO. START with a custom-made orthotic brace.
