Good afternoon Wendell - Could you please tell me whereabouts do you get the PTP app from? Thanks Stevo😊
@networkupskill6 ай бұрын
Hey SteveO, Sure. Look in the Introduction to the book, for the heading "How to Access the Pearson Test Prep App". It's multiple steps and options, so I'll leave you to those details. The instructions DIFFER IN EDITION 1 VS. EDITION 2. They just changed the how-to. So I think you said you may buy the new Volume 2 Edition 2 - you'll want to look in the introduction there for the different instructions for PTP. FYI.

When using rstp the output on the show STP VLAN x command, shouldnt the max age timer be 6 seconds?
@networkupskill3 ай бұрын
Hi Daniel, Sorry for the delay. I just tried it in lab to make sure, but the default Max Age is 20 seconds. So the output shown in the video is correct. Note that the value is used by STP, and maintained and advertised in Hellos for compatibility for networks that have a mix of STP and RSTP. Wendell

I am so confused by this Chapter :( any suggestions for a better understanding?
@networkupskill2 ай бұрын
Well, a couple of things come to mind. First, tell me more. What in the chapter did you understand, and what was confusing? Also, same question for Chapter 9, which is all about the concepts, with chapter 10 being about implementation. Then... go do the two Config Labs suggested in the description to this video. Try all the steps, and get a good understanding from the lab. Then branch out, and try: - Configuring a different switch with a lower priority, so it becomes root - and then investigate with "show spanning-tree" commands. - Find a port that blocks, and configure the cost really low - like to 1 - and see if that changes it to then forward. It may or may not... But look for it. - Find a port on a non-root switch that's in a forwarding state, and give it a really high cost, like 300. Then again look at the spanning tree. That port will likely now be blocking. If you just focus on priority values, configuring those, and costs, configuring those - with then show commands to see where the spanning-tree landed - you should get a lot more comfortable with the topics covered in this video. But do let me know what confusing and not in chapter 10 for you, and I'll try and give some additional advice. I'm confident you can work through it!

@@networkupskill THANK YOU for replying - I understood everything in chapter 9 & 10 but the lab was a bit tricky (I did it but felt like I was just copying what I was reading without really understanding.. I gave myself a break for a few days & came back with a clear mind & did a little better. Thank you again

@@AngelaD24 You're quite welcome, Angela. Glad things improved. Also, don't let the struggle throw you - I'd say that's pretty normal. There will be plenty of challenges as you move from taking in facts to building the skills to apply them - which is, of course, why we do the labs!
