We were sent this video of a magnificent Humpback whale breaching the surface of the Bay of Fundy last Friday.
Sandy Seliga was vacationing from Toronto and had whale watching on her bucket list - we’d say she can safely check that item off after a sighting like this!!
Whales are a majestic part of the Bay of Fundy ecosystem. But these brilliant creatures are under stress from tanker traffic in the bay, which is poised to get a lot busier and riskier for whales with TransCanada’s proposed Energy East Pipeline.

I've lived on the ocean in New England my entire life. I've worked for 2 boat companies doing whale watches. I am so grateful for all the experiences I've had to see these amazing creatures. They're incredible. Seeing things like this can be life changing and almost spiritual for some people. I love seeing people come on vacation from places like Kansas, Oklahoma, etc... people who have never seen the ocean in person. They see it for the first time, and then see the whales... its really a beautiful thing. Whales are some of the only animals that can make you question your spot on the food chain solely based on size. They're gentle but they are actual giants. Watching them come to the surface and open their mouths and allow the gulls to clean their baleen is really cool. I swear the whales are just as curious about us and they will show off or come over and be curious. We can't communicate with them but I have no doubt about their intelligence.

No warning? when a video starts and stops seconds before and after the interesting part it's difficult to have context but for fucks sake people. Use your brains, how do you think commercial fisherman find schools of fish in the middle of the ocean, black magic? How did they have the camera pointed in the correct direction. Ever heard of a fish finder, sonar?

There's no coincidence, they know exactly what they're doing.. They know ships are in the vicinity.. They got used to it in so many years of ships passing through the waters, they can feel the vibrations of the human voices underwater when close, .. When they come out like that is their way of saying hi and putting on a show for the people waiting for everyone's cheers, claps and making noise.. They just live in the moment, just like we should do too.. instead of living in the past or worrying about the future.. 💜💪🐳

@oodjee
@oodjee 9 жыл бұрын
+trentmcjiivers cause if the video was horizontal, he would capture a bigger area instead of moving his camera back and forth and still missing the beginning... It's just a fail. Pure and simple. It has nothing to do with how great the content is. Which it is.
@ProperGanderSaul
@ProperGanderSaul 9 жыл бұрын
oodjee But having it vertical actually picks up higher resolution of the whale considering it jumps upwards, not sideways. Such strong opinions on cameras yet so clueless as to how they work.

ProperGanderSaul Funny you should say that. I guess majoring in Film Production in University didn't do me much good... Oh wait. As someone who's spent quite a bit of time behind the camera, I can tell you that it's hard to point at the right place when you're waiting for something unexpected, but once you lock the subject in sight, it's easy to anticipate its trajectory and pan accordingly. How do you think people have been shooting stuff that moves?? So... having it horizontal in this case is still a better option. Oh, the irony. Nevertheless, if his choice for vertical was intentional and for the reason you mentioned, it can be forgiven. What you said has sense.. PS. I think you meant more space within the frame. It's not higher resolution.
@ProperGanderSaul
@ProperGanderSaul 9 жыл бұрын
oodjee lol Well I'm glad you brought up irony, because my Film and TV major at University taught me about the difference between resolution and space within a frame. Re-read what I said and let it sink in. The whale is captured with higher resolution, and if the camera was horizontal, the subject would've been less in frame instead of more or less being perfectly framed (half of the whale would've been cropped out due to it jumping beyond the top of the frame - and then it's lower half would've been cropped out if the operator then panned to get the whale's top half back in shot - 16 is almost twice as large as 9). The only thing lost with vertical framing is the surrounding water, which is nowhere near as exciting. It doesn't matter if the operator intentionally framed it vertically for that purpose - it is still true - stop grasping at straws lol Are you sure you completed your studies?
