Soyoon said that Smoke Sprite can be considerate a collab more than a feat because there was no lyrics to the song until RM came into her studio. He took on his knees in front of her and said “Let’s start lyrics with ‘take on my knees’” and she liked it.

Omg RM singing?! WHAT? He IS a good vocalist? OMG no way….. (this is a sarcastic comment directed at every army who claims Namjoon can’t/doesn’t sing bc they don’t actually listen to his discography, specially not his collabs). Anyways, this is probably my favorite RM collab outside of an album. It is SO epic. Other members in BTS will take collabs with other artists based on what the A&R team recommends for them, but not RM. He is his own A&R team, he always handpicks the people he collabs with regardless of how big or small they are, as long as he sees talent and a good opportunity for growth for both artists, he will personally message them. And I love that abt him. Big artists being put in a song together by A&R teams can work and make for a great hit song, but I like when the collab has a story and personal experience behind it, and this has also introduced me to amazing artists I had not heard before. I’m really thankful to BTS for the hits that I like to dance to but I’m specially thankful for these amazing organic collabs.

I gave you a thumbs-up, but I'll add a heads-up, since I'm guessing I'm not the only one who caught this: I don't think it's accurate to say, "Other members in BTS will take collabs with other artists based on what the A&R team recommends for them," unless, by, 'other members,' you mean Jungkook. BTS' members did some company-led collaborations very early in their careers, but if we're talking about their solo projects, they all seem to be personally choosing who to work with. I'm sure they get company help with the details (translating, finding contact info., contractual arrangements, scheduling, etc.), but that's quite different from what you're suggesting. Arguably, even Jungkook's album & remix features have mostly hewn close to his personal tastes (Justin Timberlake, Usher, Jack Harlow, Latto), which might mean that he gave input to A&R and/or he's smart to trust them, because they understand his tastes & what will work.

In general A&R teams jobs is to make connections between artists/producers/writers that will work well together mostly based on the sound/genre the artists have while still considering status equivalence. That’s no different when it comes to the members, ofc their collabs make sense and fit each member’s style and status, my point is that RM in particular doesn’t take their status into consideration and every feature/ collab is with someone he personally had a vision to work with, not just that he liked their music and even a lot of times they don’t have similar styles at all or were ever in the same artistic spaces to have made previous connections, but he still had specific reasons in his mind as to why they were the best fitted to work together.

So!YoON! is the stage name of Hwang Soyoon, a South Korean guitarist, singer-songwriter and the lead vocalist (and one of the founder members) of SE SO NEON, an indie rock group. • Making Music: Soyoon talks about the process of writing and composing “Smoke Sprite with Namjoon as a true collaboration, stating that “It is no exaggeration to say that we truly made the song together”.
