@@foxhunter671 The game only clawed back some sales due to fixing shit in DLC and patches. That however doesn't mean that the studio is in tip top shape like it used to be. They are a shadow of their former selves, with many many developers that have either left or been fired. The Devs that made Witcher 3 great and even Cyberpunk Devs are long gone. They're not the plucky and feisty indie studio they used to be and have instead folded into the corpo mold, ironically. Sales are not the only metric of success and not seeing the context of where the studio is today is why you cannot see beyond the surface. The Studio did die after this, not literally but effectively. You won't get games on the level of the Witcher 3 from them ever again.

Yeah. CDPR has gone in a VERY unfortunate direction. I remember asking for "gay representation" in "The Witcher 3" at that time there weren't many games with gay men in them, and I wanted to see homosexuals NOT REPRESENTED POSITIVELY mind you. Just to show up in some way in the game, and if appropriate in the world in a negative light. They did do this for me. To a degree. There was a guy in the game that told Geralt he's a monster, that he's cursed, and Geralt tried to figure out what this curse is. Then out of frustration with geralt he admits that he's in love with a man. I thought this was funny and satisfying. At the time when I was asking for that sort of thing to be in a game there was a LOT of push back. Mainly because people were worried this would get out of hand, go too far, or simply had no place. There was a good 1/3 of the people who were interested in the concept however. It is very depressing that the fears of those opposed to the sort of representation I was hoping for were indeed correct. Eventually. They have gone too far now, and not just that, but they have gone too far all over the gaming industry.

Larian aren't any better, they are as "woke" as CDPR, most of the Western studios with a few exceptions are left wing activists and apologists. I understand that the story for the games were their own things, that's not the issue. If anyone seen the Witcher Mobile game for example, you had an ability to create a female Witcher for example, with different skin colors and put them in any school of Witchers you wanted. That's what I ment, when as we know from the books that the Witcher trial of graces would kill any female children because of how the Witcher Formula worked.

(Not that I have personally read much of the books, only 1) It had a ton of top tier writing and production, directing and adapting the scripts either way. With the expansions too, more so probably. Down to the vocabulary of characters and voice acting, it had a lot of charm and quality.

CP2077 is the type of setting where you can push all the social agendas and that would mostly make sense in that world. That's why Cyberpunk 2077 works even with the current studio. The Witcher however is mostly based on medieval Poland, medieval Germany and Slavic folklore - it needs to be accurate to Sapowski's books and his worldbuilding or else it won't work. They can't "diversify" it and culturally appropriate it.

It’s unrelated to how woke the devs are, and we probably don’t disagree on what you’re calling the “larger issue.” And the hard push to implement DEI is also an executive decision made to gain access to capital. It’s a financial decision, and it’s made at the top of all companies because it seemingly will improve profits. That is… until customers stop buying products.
