Larian aren't any better, they are as "woke" as CDPR, most of the Western studios with a few exceptions are left wing activists and apologists. Larian just gives more options to the players in their games including options they wouldn't' agree with, but they absolutely pushed their identity politics in BG3. @@foxhunter671 The game only clawed back some sales due to fixing shit in DLC and patches. That however doesn't mean that the studio is in tip top shape like it used to be. They are a shadow of their former selves, with many many developers that have either left or been fired. The Devs that made Witcher 3 great and even Cyberpunk Devs are long gone. They're not the plucky and feisty indie studio they used to be and have instead folded into the corpo mold, ironically. Sales are not the only metric of success and not seeing the context of where the studio is today is why you cannot see beyond the surface. The Studio did die after this, not literally but effectively. You won't get games on the level of the Witcher 3 from them ever again.

@@foxhunter671 Gameplay-wise Phantom Liberty is just more cyberpunk, except they added 1 real boss in the spider tank. Meanwhile Witcher 3 has a bunch of different boss monsters. Writing-wise I've enjoyed Witcher 3's main story and side quests more, but Cyberpunk's world is way more fleshed out in terms of lore and atmosphere. Overall Witcher 3 is still better, especially if you factor in how unoptimized and unpolished Cyberpunk STILL IS. 2.0 basically bricked the game's performance (it's better now) and Dogtown is still an fps killer.

I understand that the story for the games were their own things, that's not the issue. If anyone seen the Witcher Mobile game for example, you had an ability to create a female Witcher for example, with different skin colors and put them in any school of Witchers you wanted. That's what I ment, when as we know from the books that the Witcher trial of graces would kill any female children because of how the Witcher Formula worked.

@@GhostAeonWolf It's technically a continuation of the books and it works because CDPR respected and enhanced the existing worldbuilding and characters from the books, they created a fan fiction type of a continuation that still felt true to Sapowski's incredible setting.

(Not that I have personally read much of the books, only 1) It had a ton of top tier writing and production, directing and adapting the scripts either way. With the expansions too, more so probably. Down to the vocabulary of characters and voice acting, it had a lot of charm and quality.

It’s unrelated to how woke the devs are, and we probably don’t disagree on what you’re calling the “larger issue.” And the hard push to implement DEI is also an executive decision made to gain access to capital. It’s a financial decision, and it’s made at the top of all companies because it seemingly will improve profits. That is… until customers stop buying products.

CP2077 is the type of setting where you can push all the social agendas and that would mostly make sense in that world. That's why Cyberpunk 2077 works even with the current studio. The Witcher however is mostly based on medieval Poland, medieval Germany and Slavic folklore - it needs to be accurate to Sapowski's books and his worldbuilding or else it won't work. They can't "diversify" it and culturally appropriate it.

Woke can't be sustained for much longer. The cost is becoming too much. The only reason developers were even experimenting with woke was because they had too much money and no reason for player feedback. Woke will die in gaming first and then in wider society as the pendulum swings.

Almost no woke game has ever done well financially: - Saints Row reboot barely cut even and caused the studio to shut down. - Concord is the single largest video game failure in history. - Forspoken flopped so hard SE sold the studio. - Alan Wake 2 is still struggling to cut even. - Suicide Squad flopped hard, we still don't know the sales numbers because they're too ashamed to show us them. I think the few woke game that ever succeeded was like... Battleifeld V and that's mostly due to the brand, the previous entry not being woke (and being an excellent game) and people not even knowing what woke was back then because it was more uncommon back then.

Hype doesn't affect me because I have about 100 recent-ish games in my backlog, many of them are the kind of game you'd sink dozens of hours into. I just don't have time to keep up. I've played Helldivers 2 this from year, and that's because its multiplayer and my friends are playing. Still have Persona 3 Reload and Millennia and Dragon's Dogma 2 and a bunch of others just from THIS YEAR. Gonna add Elden Ring DLC to that in a month.
