Nah, this isn't really good without a doctor's supervision. Chewing food for taste and then spitting it out without swallowing is considered an eating disorder and can cause other negative health effects.

It can cause acid reflux or stomach ulcers because the stomach starts producing more acids when you chew in anticipation of digestion. It can also be linked to overeating and weight gain in some individuals surprisingly. Like I said, definitely not a healthy practice without doctor's supervision.

⁠@@otakueve117 you're thinking of an autoimmune disorder, which is on the right track but slightly off. Mouse has a condition called Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) which causes her body to be unable to produce antibodies so her immune system can't attack anything.

Thanks mouse for posting this, my wife has Gastroparesis and cannot digest basically anything other than potatoes, but we use the chew and spit method for her to be able to taste some of the food that I cook for her. she's very self conscious about this, so hearing that someone she respects so much also does this made her really happy!! cant wait for you to be able to try all these new foods!

I know it gets said all the time, but Connor is such a good friend! As someone who has been struggling with mental health issues for my entire adult life, one thing I've learned from all the therapy I have done, is how to be kind to your self, and compromise instead of the usual "all or nothing" type of thinking we as humans tend to do. This pizza thing is a perfect example. Yes wasting food is bad, but Connors idea to spit it out was SO good! Mouse, you deserve to be happy and have normal experiences like eating Pizza! Be kind to your self, girl!

Connor is such a damn good human being. He treats her like a normal person while also taking her situation seriously. She loves Piiksa so much but can’t eat it. Connor always orders Pizza on stream when she tells him to just to please her. Now he at least wanted her to taste the Piikza even if she can’t fully eat it. Funny stuff. Everyone's lactose intolerant. It's just that different people have different levels of how much lactose they can take in. For me, it's something like 2 weeks of at least half a liter of milk (or equivalent in milk based products) and then the explosions happen. I know, cause when i first heard it, i didn't believe it. :)) "I'm not lactose intolerant, that's BS". Oh... boy, was i wrong.

100% eating is such a core human experience. I have been driven to go to the store in the middle of the night because my craving for a certain food becomes too overpowering, I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to spend years of my life unable to eat. Mouse deserves to experience that part of being human too, and if tasting it and spitting it out is how that has to happen, then more power to her. I wouldn't even call it wasteful. Grocery stores dumping bleach on food they can't sell to ensure nobody can eat it is wasteful, Mouse enjoying food in the only way she can is wholesome.

Getting it hot in the microwave or pan again - the dish will be not the same at all, part of the moisture will vaporize, making it less juicy. Two sides of the same coin.

That stuff definitely bothered me until a friend got a job in industrial food production, and I saw the scale of the waste there. You'd personally have to throw out an entire pizza every day of your life for the rest of your life to even make a dent in what these big factories throw away every year. That doesn't even take into account food destroyed/damaged in transit or shrink at the supermarket. Obviously, one shouldn't waste food, but the damage an individual can do is nothing compared to the waste that goes on systemically.

We all sometimes need that friend who is going to encourage us to step outside of our comfort zone and do something to make things interesting. After watching this video and going through the comment section, I'm on the same page of thinking that while it royally sucks that she can't digest most food, I am glad to hear that she was able to taste and somewhat enjoy pizza again. A thought occurred to me, and I hope I don't sound dumb for sharing this: you know how astronauts eat special space food that's like dried or whatever. Imagine if there existed "space beer" where it comes in tablets that you put in a glass, add water, stir the mixture, and you get "beer". Depending on what her body can and cannot handle, this could be Ironmouse's way of sharing a beer with Connor.
