Thank you so much for your encouraging words! I'm very glad others are being helped by this. My wrist fracture is healed now, but I have arthritis at the base of my thumb which will never go away. So, I'm still crocheting with my brace on and the hook stuffed into it. I can at least use the fingers on my left hand to help with slip knots, etc, but not for crocheting at all. I've essentially become a left-handed crocheter, after being a right-handed one all my life. I hope you've been able to find other videos that show devices people have used for those who have no use at all of one hand. Here are the ones I have found. Here's one by Donna Wolfe: kzbin.info/www/bejne/al6aq4WvgNafp80. Here's another one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJK6gIuYaKmab5I. And another: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJLNZINqhdmsoas. Here's a lady knitting with one hand. It's not crochet, but the technique might give you some ideas: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYClZ6qDp9yerJY. Here's yet another one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWeTYaWVibxonKs. I hope these help your patient.

I've been crocheting for 2 years. I got in a freak accident 5 weeks ago and have lost majority of my motor function in my left hand due to severe nerve damage. Today was the day I finally decided to see if one handed crocheting was even a thing. Thank you, I'm intrigued to try this out

My mom took me to a crochet circle for lessons when I was three. Last June, when I was 49, I had a stroke and became paralyzed on my left side. Your videos have been so helpful. A friend made a device for me and thanks to you and my friends I have begun crochet again with my right hand and a clever gizmo made from a small workbench vice. Thank you so much! Your videos have changed my life in a nursing home so much! I was going crazy before I found your channel. Crocheting again feels like a miracle! I absolutely adore my crochet vice, but I'd be lost without your technique instructions. Even with your tutorials this is incredibly difficult to do. I never would have figured it out without help. I feel like I live in a disability proof world. Everything seems to take two hands for granted.

Omg thank you! I had a stroke at 34. I had always wanted to learn how to crochet or knit. After the stroke I was unable to use my left arm. I can usually find a away to do most things one handed but since I didn't know how to knit or crochet l didn't know where to even begin. Thank you for making this video you make it look easier than how my Grandma tried teaching me with two hands. I am for ever grateful. I will let you know how it goes once I put in your directions into practice.

Your comment just made my day! Thank you so much for your kind words. Please do keep in touch and let me know how you're doing with this. I have a friend who can only use one side of her body. She crochets with one hand and one foot. She's such an inspiration!

The critical factor for me was finding a stable way to hold my hook. Until my friends brought me a device made from a small workbench vice I was using rubber bands to attach a hook to my hand splint. It would sag and the stitches slid off the end. The vice is not the same as it was before I got sick, but it's better than I thought possible before I tried it! I have started an idea I have to make an octopus hat by making a ch68 & 6hdc it isn't perfect, but good enough for now.

Thanks for the post, I am a man who barely survived a stroke at age 48. Lost nearly all use of left arm and hand but do have enough grip between the frozen and contracted fingers on the left hand to hold a crochet hook but since I didn’t know how to crochet before the stroke I had no idea how to learn to crochet even though I could hold the hook with my useless left hand. I can’t thank you enough since now I have something to do other than just sit and watch TV all day! So much better for my depression about losing most things I liked to do that the stroke took away. Figuring out how to crochet was frustrating since I was able to figure other ways to get most things done after the stroke but I knew how to do those things. Crochet was completely new to me. I’ve tried many times to learn to crochet with only one hand several times only to give up in frustration but not this time! Thanks again for taking the time to post!!

I thank you so much! My hand is starting to crimp up, my hand doesn’t lay flat on a table anymore and it’s very painful. But please, may I ask, are you crocheting left handed? When I crochet, the hook is in my right hand. Maybe that’s your whole point. ? I’ll have to think how to do this with the other hand because it’s my right hand I can’t use the thumb on. God bless you. I hope you are all better now.
@CherylDFloyd2 жыл бұрын
This video is opposite of what you need. In the video, it's my left hand that I can't use. You would need to put a brace on your right hand and do all the yarn manipulation with your left hand. Yes, I'm all better now. I hope you're under a doctor's care for the pain.
