Still honored to say I've been able to compete at the highest level in the US at USAFBL in Atlanta and win first in best street run and 2nd in best street trick. Never would've thought that less than 2 years ago when I got back into fingerboarding, this is where it would go.

Hi. This video touched my heart. I discovered fingerboarding around 2015 , and got back to life some Sbego decks I had. With the years I improved a lot, watched Mike almost everyday, started to buy pro completes, introduced this to lots of people... (even in 2020 my friend and I were filming for YT, but lockdown happened and killed our idea). During last years, studies, social media and social life steal my time, and fingerboarding has been going down from my life. But, sometimes, I realize that this past years energy for this still there. As you say, will try to make my part for this amazing community.

That was really cool to watch Chris. Also, it makes an "old-timer" like me, who never fully made the transition to fast-paced Instagram, make sense of today's scene. I didn't know there were so many fingerboard stores now! There's also Dirty Monkey's Fingerboards Store in Argentina, if anyone comes by these latitudes. Thank you for great content.

Loved both parts. My name is Mario. I'm Nicaraguan. I've been fingerboarding since the year 2000. A fingerboard came to me through a friend who I used to skate with. In 1999, he came back to Nicaragua from the states and gave me a fingerboard with the XGames logo below and on the griptape, so I had it as a decorative in my room, but it was until the next year that I saw a show on tv (blue torch) showcasing fingerboarding in Europe, and that made take fingerboarding. So, I've been fingerboarding for 22 years now. I've really enjoyed both videos. It brought back so many memories. I've been promoting fingerboarding in Nicaragua for some years now. I've done some events. Two contests among them. I'm planning a third contest, it will be in December. I'm looking for support out there 'cuz there's no industry or shops related to fingerboarding in my country Nicaragua. Great work on the videos! Looking forward to seeing more from you. Thank you so much! I will actually give a 15 minutes workshop on the history of fingerboarding to a skateboarding academy at the beginning of next month. I will also be doing a demo and teaching about fingerboarding.

Beautiful work Chris and very well said. It never really died, the platforms just changed. Pretty much the only reason why I stopped making videos is not to do with focusing on my own life or work or career or anything like that. I think if I truly wanted to keep it going, I would. It was more the repetitive nature of it and the plateuing of my abilities along with my friends not being as into it. I slowly stopped making vidoes because they all felt the same and I had no motivation to carry on, but then in 2015 I broke my right wrist and that sort of sealed it for me at the time. I never really found pleasure in making instagram edits and now I don't use it at all. However, it is amazing to see it still flourishing and to see so many new people in the scene, pushing it more and more. I had no idea so many shops existed. I hope to get back to making shorter videos again soon!
@cdplaya2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Rory! I totally get that, and to be honest that's how I felt as well up until about 2017. Instagram actually excited me initially, but at this point I realized that I prefer KZbin 😅

Amazing work Chris! Really enjoyed it. Also, seeing the Fingaspeak shop almost brought tears to my eyes. For some of us in Portugal (myself; Andre Coral, Loz, and Bruno Ambrosio), the Fingapektakel #2 held by Emil in 2008, was the first time anyone from Portugal went to an event abroad. This was when we all met most of the icons which until then we would only see and talk to online! Proud to say that most of my closest friends came from the same love we share for this tiny fingerboard. I do miss the "old days". I do miss the "old" the old online scene as well and the regular rants on FFI. But times change. It doesn't necessarily mean things suck today...They are just different. One thing I do believe was lost was the spirit of fingerboarding though. Nowadays its all about products, all about consumerism and brands with dozens of thousands of followers and "customers" which at the end of the day don't dedicate much (if any) time to maintain or support the scene...All these new lazy ass "brands" simply acting as re-sellers for products made in China factories, keep collecting cash on demand with zero efforts to sustain a scene that gives them so much...That's sad. There hasn't ever been so many people fingerboarding as we have to day, yet, proper events are scarce and far between...To me at least, this also explains why a lot of the "OGs" kind of disappeared. A lot of the fingerboarders that were active in the early 2000s just feel disappointed with today's scene and the route it took. That doesn't mean we are not fingerboarding. Not at all. Its just that for a lot us, the "underground" part of fingerboarding was also something we cherished. We cherished meeting face to face, drink some beers around the fire and just sit there and talk with our decks in our pockets. All in all, fingerboarding is and will always be part of me and something I will pass on to my son as well. Fingerboarding is really a huge part of my life and its also what brought so many people together to this day. Memories of all the events we have been to, memories of all the meetups, memories of brands that survived to this day despite all the low quality crap coming from China, memories of Wunsiedel, Fast Fingers, Harrics, all the events in Portugal and lowpro's continuous attempts to fuel the creative side of the scene.. Man, I love it all. As Paolo always says, fingerboarding is the great excuse. The excuse we all had and still have to simply come together to enjoy a common love. For a lot us us, fingerboarding was basically an open gateway that for something far beyond the fingerboards themselves. Fingerboarding molded our lives. Cheers!
