My mother's father was born in Viipuri (Karelian town, that had to be given to Russia in peace). His wife was also from Viipuri. They longed their whole life to get back to their hometown, although lived a descent life at Kotka, a city at southeast of Finland. He fought in really hard places at Karelian isthmus both in winter war and through the continuation war attack phase and defensive(retreating) phases... He never talked about the war to us kids, even when we became adults.. My father's father served whole war also, first at Helsinki air defence forces and then as a aeroplane mechanics helping to keep those few fighters up in the air and flying... He also talked very little about the war.. He lost one brothers at Karelian front and another brother of his was wounded for life. So yes, there are reasons, why finns take the defence and conscript service really, really seriously. And proudly so...

In the WWII Finland fought all together 3 wars.. The 105-day Winter War between November 1939 and March 1940 against Stalin's Soviet Union.. The Continuation war against the Soviet Union between June 1941 and September 1944 along with Nazi Germany.. And the Lapland war against the retreating Germans between september 1944 and April 1945..

Last one was the hardest beacuse of the huge aid Stalin recieved from good guys.

Video is shown to anyone going to army.. because yes we need soldiers, but we dont need blood thirst, war is horror and it needs to be shown to people.. yet we do need defence force.. thats why it is show, its sad.. but.. its to protect our nation..so you need to be able to accept the sadness of war and do your duty. -- not because of glory, you shall have none.. but just as a duty..

What he meant by saying, our people were splitted... winter war started 39. Finland's civil war was 1918... Harsh to say but ww2 united the people of Finland more or less.

They sure did and thankfully so. It is not that Russia gave any choice in the matter, we simply choce lesser evil from 2 evils. It was either Stalin or Hitler since Allied forcec failed to keep their word.

@@duhni4551 If you didn't know we didn't have to take part of that war. We could have been neutral and stay out of that war but our fascist leaders wanted to go war with Russia cause they was sure they are going to win. We didn't have to choose any sides but we wanted and we pay high price of that.

@@sampopelto923 We didn't? So are you trying to suggest that Russia didn't invade us? How exactly we could have avoided Molotov- Rippentropt pact? Care to englighten me on this? You also seem to not know that we did declare neutrality but Russia invaded us anyway so we really were forced to pick a side, choices were to either fight against Russia with Germany and perhaps remain as independent nation or surrender to Russia and be annexed and face the fate of other Baltic nations. If you talk about history, at least make sure you know it, i also highly doubt you are Finnish as you don't know even the basics of the war you talk about.

@@duhni4551 I don't care what you think. Reality is that we didn't have to take a part of that war but we wanted. It was Eljas Erkkos war as they say. We never declared neutrality. Why Sweden didn't choose sides and stayed neutral? We could have done same but no... We wanted war and that's what we got. Why was 200000 nazi soldiers in our country if we declared neutrality? And they were in peace time... You should stop reading mainstream media.

@@duhni4551 Ja jos haluut tarkemmin tietää et miten se sota olis voitu Suomen kohdalla välttää niin Erkkohan neuvotteli Stalin kanssa ennen sodan alkua ja tuli siihen päätökseen et lähetään sotaan mukaan. Ei olis ollut mikään pakko mut halusivat sotimaan.
