This is great. I feel like I was emotionally damaged in the church because they are not equipped to handle the mental and emotional side. It was always..."are you praying?" "are you reading the word?" I had to realize I needed emotional and mental help so I went and got it. It's okay to seek help outside the church. After you've gotten the outside help, you can really stand on the word of God in the church. It's a spiritual battle on both ends and most times, leadership in the church need help.

Amen sis!! I feel you! I’m still getting therapy for the damage I experienced by the church also. Some of the people probably didn’t even realize what they were doing, thinking they were following scripture, but it’s hard to forgive them. It’s so hurtful and painful because it feels like not even God can help you. Especially when you weren’t even aware that you had a mental health condition until you were an adult. It’s been extremely difficult trying to navigate life, but God!!!! I thank you God for keeping me and that I’m still here standing, because some days I just wanted to end it all. To God be the glory!
@poet82n3 жыл бұрын
@@Naymichelle76 Thank you for your post. I definitely understand. Sometimes we forget that people in the church are just people. It can be difficult to go to the church in need and instead go through spiritual trauma with them. I've experienced it first hand. I always say that although I was bullied as a child from my peers, it wasn't until I got into the church that I was bullied by adults. From telling me that "God don't bless people like me" or "that I'll never be able to help anyone because I can't help myself". Or doing things that would turn me away from the church, which for some time it did. I can attest that it's emotionally damaging and hard to overcome when it comes from a place where you pray, fellowship and put into practice the word of God. I believe that most people in the church do not realize or understand the damage it causes. I was literally at a point where I didn't want to live anymore because of it. But I also tell people that in reality the church is not equipped to handle mental health issues in a more practical humanly way. The church is more about the spirit. But I've learned that you CANNOT grow in the spirit if you haven't dealt with the trauma. Once you've gotten the right help, being in the church and hearing the word of God is more sustainable and you can stand in faith. Keep going and praying and standing. It's okay to get mental help, outside of spiritual advisors. I know that they say depression and anxiety is a spirit BUT it's also a chemical imbalance in the brain. God can heal and deliver AND give you the outlets to explore therapy and fight for yourself. I'm in this fight now so you're not alone. Keep your head up. YOU MATTER!

The laughter & love shared among the sisters, CeCe's daughter is genuine! Angie's announcement of her invisalines, Ashley trying hold back, then bursting out into hard laughter, then into tears...is way too real for me. Like Angie, CeCe Debbie & Ashley (my family loved to joke & laugh) and have clean fun. After dinner my mom, sisters, would be sitting around the dining room table, sharing old family memories & laughing hysterically. It took me back to those times in my life (my parents, oldest sister, two brothers are longer here with me), and thank God I still have 2 brothers & 2 sisters, alive today. I kept rewinding the video & laughing alone with them. This episode (was medicine for me), it reminded me of the love, laughter, joy & good times we all once had shared in our family home.

I having a son born in 1975, raised in church, vaccine injured. I have gone through a life of worry and disappointment. My son came to a point he began to medicate himself. I cannot tell you how many times I was on my face in the carpet. As a grown man, now, he can speak the Word and still medicates with alcohol due to the warring in his body, many times blaming others and situations. I will never give up hope to see him healed by The Word. This conversation has comforted me, because he is now acknowledging a lot he has been taught and is relying on The Lord more and more everyday.

And I encourage anyone that is going through depression, anxiety or any mental illness to seek specifically for a Christian Counselor to guide you and help you emotionally, spiritually to heal those inner wounds that no one can see but Jesus. I have been in therapy for five 5 years and I am so grateful to God, my therapist and my husband for finally being healed from my inner wounds. Jesus is faithful and He uses, therapist to bring healing to our broken hearts. All Honor and Glory for Him. 🙏

I love how Dr. Anita Phillips broke it down and brought correction and understanding in love. As a teacher, I get a lot of joy out of people being able to take complex topics and communicate them in bite-sized chunks so they become actionable/alive in peoples lives.

I was crying before I looked at this after listening to one of Mrs Winans songs and I watched it and I am glad I did.. This lady guest is very special indeed.. And she knows that there are people who have been through ALOT.. and not everyone can handle all the Bible thumping Christianology when we just need someone to listen to us.. I suffer from mental illness.. I have been abused in every way by different family members and by people I trusted.. Yet I still pray.. And I still love God.. But I have moved away from the Church because when I had my first Bipolar episode they didn't understand it and they didn't stand with me.. They shunned me.. And I am over it.. If I am Spirit lead to a kind and understanding church I will go.. Thank you for this opportunity to listen to this wonderful show..

Hi ladies💜 Came across this tonight. And I can't believe how much you ladies look alike. Especially Debbie! My first Cece concert was last yr. What an experience 💜 I have had a rough road and realized I needed to get further help. From a young age damage was done and then it was physical abuse with my baby's dad, to a failed marriage to the next marriage dealing with a narcissist in many ways and my 38 yr old only son has spent more of his life in prison. That's a chip of the ice berg. Now my husband has been diagnosed with onset dementia. I don't know what I'd do without God!!! But being a senior now is a scary time for me. Especially when I don't have family. I am glad I found someone who is a believer that helps God to help me. You are my mentor Cece, I trust in your teachings. Love you ladies💜💜💜💜💜

One of the biggest key points I've taken from this discussion is allowing yourself and others to be human in expressing emotions. That doesn't mean we stay in our feelings if they don't line up with the word of God, but it means being honest about where we are and allowing others to do the same. We are human, even as Believers in Christ we have emotions. We don't have to live by our emotions but we do have them for a reason. Many times acknowledging negative emotions helps us to get to the root of the issue. Very good discussion. Thank you all.

I did need therapy to deal with the my losses in order to recover and now my faith is rebuilding stronger than ever. WOW! thank you for making this video! I had some things happen to me when I was growing up and really wounded me and my spirit. Got stuck in some additive behaviors that I have been trying to stop for YEARs. I have recently starting seeing a trauma specialist and she is a Christ Follower... watching this has encouraged me so much. Thank you for having Dr. Anita Phillips on. What a blessing

Amén 🙏🏾 on meditating on the word!! Years ago, after I prayed I sit still with a notebook and pen 🖊 at hand and I waited for God to speak to me, for lack of a better word, and out of the blue full conversations would take place, its like a river overflowing with His messages for me. To this day I remember the very first thoughts that came bursting onto the paper, “my child I have been waiting on you ! I get chills to this day. The point I’m trying to make is simply we pray and ask for things etc, but we don’t sit long enough after prayer to listen, and I have been praying like this since. Thank you for this channel and for sharing it with us all

Thank you so much for this conversation. It’s not only hard for church folks sometimes to admit their struggles, it’s also hard for some in the black community because of the stigma. Excellent!!!

OMG...OMG...OMG, l'm So Truly Grateful that l just so happened to run across this video and Lord knows it's just what l'm needing right now, l feel like this week if not longer that l'm needing to express myself with others(Saints) but l feel that l can't be true fully open about it because of the negative backlash that l know l'll have to face, So many people including The Body of Christ, that are so depressed, and probably a lot of frustration, this program l wish could be aired in every church, l'm crying while l'm watching this video because l can see where l and so many others who are in real need of HELP...Thank You So Much for sharing this message!!

I love the way Ashley interprets scripture. She has a way of helping you to see God’s personality and to understand that we were made in His image so He understands what you are going through.

Watching the video and thinking by isolation from the pandemic, I lost my Therapist and I couldn't get another who cares about me and I broke down .. and needed a therapist and asked God, how am I gonna find a therapist now! I'm isolated and my mental health was so broke ..I didn't want "the earthly kind of therapy anymore. . during my pleading God showed me his way was best. I've since been led to his voice , and by his word I and also encouraging videos. Amazing! Sweet confirmation! Thank you for the video. I have previously been told I needed three therapist. So world's mental help was needed and it helped until it couldn't.
