I've read all of this stuff like 500 times but, it's so much more awesome and means so much more when Aaron personally talks about it. For those who don't know this Aaron is the voices of Billy Bob, Looney Bird, Rolfe and Earl. He also used to voice Mitzi and Beach Bear. It's always amazed me at how he can change his voice like that.

Great interview! When he talked about the fact that he liked to see how things worked growing up, it kind of reminds me of my fascination with animatronics. The other day, I was at Knoebels, which used to harbor a Hard Luck Bear show and still has two of the characters, so I finally got to see some of CEI's work. If my parents hadn't pulled me away to ride more rides, I probably would have stared at the animatronics all day! XD My fascination only started recently with a certain game which shall not be named, but I just love how they move and perform. I'm incredibly interested in how they work and the different show tapes and retrofits. If I ever do go on a tour to CEI, I'll be so excited and fascinated I won't want to leave! XD

Yeah, I agree, I love the quirky way animatronics and other robotics move. Especially anything made by Disney. I just love the movement of the geese on America sings, and the expressions and shaking the various country bears do on the country bear jamboree. I love how wolfman of Wolfpack 5 moves his arms and swings them around. I just find it all very quirky and charming.

It’s so sad to hear the bad terms Aaron was in with CEC Entertainment which led ultimately to concept unification. And of course watching the concept unification installation tape was sad before. Apparently it was a tough and difficult thing. On the bright side, concept unification premiered with very cheerful and lively shows with the Munch’s Make Believe Band song and many others.

To be fair, the Showbiz Pizza corporates screwed over the Chuck E Cheese characters as well. As soon as they took over Pizza Time Theatre they forced them to really tone down Chuck E and his gang of nitwits. One major thing the Pizza Time Players had over the Rock-A-Fire Explosion was that they were able to be way more risqué and wild with their humor. Once Showbiz came in, they neutered the Chuck E Cheese shows.

BenRapz The full answer is that they started losing money in 1984, so they gathered ideas. Their competetor, Chuck E Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre had just filed for Chapter 11 bankrupcty, so ShowBiz's idea was to buy Chuck E Cheese's, and merge with them. By merging, all ShowBiz Pizza Places were renamed Chuck E Cheese, and the animatronics were all taken down except Billy Bob I believe who was just edited to look like Chuck E Cheese.

Nolan Bushnell wanted Atari owned arcades...but needed to disguise them as restaurants...the animatronics were of lesser importance to the vertical integration of Atari arcade games. I wish Bushnell would have given animatronics even MORE importance and hired Aaron Fechter for his Atari arcade restaurants right from the start. The idea of Arcade + Animatronics + Pizza...Charles Entertainment Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre...is Nolan Bushnell's idea. Showbiz Pizza Place is a rip off...that being said Rock-afire Explosion is AWESOME and I hope they go on Tour or get another nationwide gig...maybe with like Dave & Buster's.

No doubt that the Rock a fire explosion was a million times better than Chuck E Cheese. But as they say it the business world. Doesn't matter who's the best. It matters what brings in the most $$$$$$. And as they told Aaron, little kids who would love it didn't give a damn sadly. They just wanted a place to be entertained, eat, and play. If that saved Showbiz Inc $$$$ by going with the cheaper product, they were going to go with what made them $$$$$$. Sadly it's the world we live in. Where what's the best, who's the best, and what's fair doesn't mean jack.
