Agreed!!! The coloraturo style from another singer sound very weak and subtle and it's not so fun to listen to it. And yes, she is the best one to sing this song. :)

Ms. Bartoli kind of owns this role doesn't she. Its not just a question of her highly accomplished mezzo coloratura vocal technique (very difficult), but also her vocal interepretation of a naive young girl . Bartoli also brings natural acting abilities to the fore--comic flair, a naivete, pathos, even a touch of goofiness that is totally natural--and puts A. Netrebko's mannered attempts at comedy in ie Don Pasquale to shame. Brava Ms. Bartoli!!!! Love you!!

There are two reasons why she "pulls those faces". The first is that the positioning of the jaw, lips and tongue help to produce the beautiful sound and her famously crystal-clear diction; and the second is that, in a big opera theatre, many singers expressions, at a distance, seem as blank as a plank ... big expressions allow the viewer to see the acting from way back in the theatre. Bartoli is wonderful.

Fach isn't just what notes you can hit. It's timbre, tessitura (where the voice wants to stay most of the time), color in different ranges, etc. And temperament of the artist and the voice for certain kinds of characters.

her coloratura is not aspirated (that is an artifice to match the notes using "h"). seh is a true coloratura, and the notes are simply very clean, sometimes almost maching evrynote like an "staccatto sulla linea di canto" ...that´s amazing.

Ceceilia Bartoli is not exactly my first choice for Cenerentola, but her techinque is astonishing for the role. Its amazing that she is a mezzo-soprano, and yet can trill as equally as well as her soprano collegues. Like a canary. And her emotional expression was, so far, one of the best I've seen yet. But her vocal expression... I prefer either Agnes Baltsa, Kathleen Kuhlmann, and Teresa Berganza. But beautiful performance by Ceceila Bartoli.

what amazes me more is that uneducated ppl like this bunch failed to realize that Maria Callas never took on this role. She was a soprano sfogato, not mezzo. She recorded this aria late in her career, thats all. Shes been dead for 40 years and is still considered the greatest soprano of all time. So u all can take a seat and cry more.

@MrJago80 I think Horne and Bartoli have very differnt approach to coloratura; I don't agree that one is "right" and the other incorrect, nor re-educate our ears to accept one interpretation over another. But even Rossini himself gladly would have enjoyed their very disparate sonority and interpretation of the Character, and her arias. I enjoy them both for very different reasons-- both being quite valid Cenerentola divas.
