I have been asked to conduct a flute choir transcription of the piece to highlight a very talented, local high school senior. Though I was familiar with the piece, I chose your performance to really study and learn the piece. Bravo! I love the addition of the string quartet.

I believe this is the first time I'm hearing a performance of this piece with strings and piano. It's absolutely amazing. Ms Robinson has been one of my inspirations since the 80's. Even though I don't play anymore I still enjoy listening and learning. I may not play but my ear continues to grow and understand more all the time. Also with listening to the new generation of amazing flutists. I'll probably get another flute one day soon. To fill that whole in my heart. Thank you Ms Robison. ❤❤

Been listening to a number of recordings of this piece this early morning, and Paula's is by far my favourite. I think one famous flautist once said 'look after the little notes' and she definitely does that, there isn't a note or phrase she hasn't thought about. I've heard so many people just play through it, rather than play it. Also have a recording of the Copland Duo by her which was similarly inspiring. I was a professional flautist and during my training and career I learned to critically listen to many of the greats. I'm reminded that there are many flautists in the world, and not as many musicians. Paula is one of the musicians. Thank you for what you did for me.

Just finished listening to the same piece performed by another world class performer (known throughout the world as the premier player) & I enjoying this performance much more! Tonal quality is more resonant & the phrasing & articulation is more beautifully done. I could listen to you for hours on end! This is a perfect example of exquisite flute playing. Thank you for sharing your talents with the rest of us who were not blessed to be at this recital/concert.

I've been really feeling a strong urge to learn flute, and this piece in specific I find so inspiring. None more so than this specific interpretation. I can actually *feel* the music, the emotions. She doesn't play the flute, she makes it sing, beautifully. Thank you for this.

Today's flutists are encouraged to play with less vibrato, while, if you listen to the old masters of the Golden Age during our time such as Pierre Rampal, Marcel Moyse, William Bennet, Monteux, you will hear sometimes even MORE vibrato... take a listen. BTW, Paula, you are one of my favorite flutists, love your interpretation....

Wow, I just listened to this for the first time and loved it! Paula Robison is an amazing flutist! I love how she plays the Chaminadei in such a relazed manner. I always feel as though I have to play it aggressively, for some reason. This makes so much more sense. It's as though she's caressing the piece instead of trying to impress. Love it!

Great performance. Flute learners should learn the advanced techniques and restraints that support this performance. The interpretation of music is very romantic and is supported by a constructive power that is never played. In addition, I felt that the physically rational playing technique that I showed everywhere was wonderful. I really love this performance. I want to fly from Japan to take lessons from her even now! I am 69 years old now. So that's not possible, but the passion of decades ago to improve was brought back to me. Professor Paula Robison, I wish you all the best.

Paula Robison is a great performer and musician,She studied with the great and unique Marcel Moyse,that is very important to consider it because we all Flute players, we need to play Moyse Études,studied, and tone development Excersices. Just for that fact I admire her and respect ver a lot she is my Idol. I see that there some comments that she is sharp of what ever but you know what come on! Is Paula Robison there is a prestige and there i Saw a comment of some one talking about her breathing i mean she is a Old woman,she is not going to play the same well as in 1966. Is like Galway an other flutist. So respect does fact and she is playing to well for a flutist of her age. Still gorgeous and sparkling,I hope to get thst age and play the Flute and move along all the Hall like her with her age. Brava Paula!💖

I know that she is the top female flute player in the United States. I have heard that she had studied the flute under the great Julius Baker. Mrs. Poula Robison won the first prize at the Geneva Flute Competition of 1966 that do not manufacture the American winner other than her. When I saw her performance at Ueno, Tokyo, I'm remembering that she had beautifully played Hummel of flute sonata. Also, I have her LP record which is consists of "NEL COR PIU" variations and Venice variations. Today, I tilt the better ear to it. This time, I am very glad to be able to hear the excellent Chaminade's Concertino by Mrs. Robison. Well, again, A girl of great flute suddenly appeared in the United States. Her name is Miss. Emma Resmini.

Ms. Robison is THE Virtuoso flutist of her time. Leonard Bernstein even acknowledged her on his recordings, of which there was only one take for Peter and the Wolf and Carnival. I find this interpretation delightedly refreshing and expressive. Far to many simply play Chaminade for speed and play with no feeling. Intonation issues? I don’t think so.

I agree. She's super talented, and I love her playing. It's just the vibrato that bothers me. I don't like it when flutists use vibrato throughout the entire piece, especially when it's heavy like hers
@KatrinaMartinFlute8 жыл бұрын
I agree that she plays sharp, and the heavy vibrato is a bit too much, but I don't think the movements are distracting or annoying. She's only moving with the music and if that doesn't mess with the sound, then it shouldn't matter.

Honest question: what do you find to be an ideal style/amount of vibrato? I know that's sort of hard to answer because it's different for different pieces, but if you could just say in general for solo playing. I'm finding that a lot of younger flutists are being taught to use much less and much slower vibrato, and I'm honestly curious about what the source of this style change is and what the rationale is.
