It is so unfortunate that so many of the present generation of young Filipinos, the below 35 years old, have barely heard of Ms. Licad, much more appreciate her. Most likely because she has spent most of her time abroad where classical music is more appreciated by the masses. SAYANG .... if she can only be here more often, it will give classical music appreciation a much needed boost. Kaya lang sabi nga - one has to earn a decent living and pag sa Pinas ka lang .. ehhh medyo gutom nga.

Lorenzo Medel Your comment is true na gutom nga, kaya lang fortunately most concert pianist not only in the Philippines but in the global aspect are from affluent families and they are doing these endeavour for passion and not as a source of income they could even live a comfortable life without getting anything out of it. Sya nga pala Lorenzo Im one of your avid fans youre also great pianist. Thnks

I couldn't agree more! I love to listen classical music! Ewan kung bakit ko nakahiligan, wala naman akong background, coming from a small barrio (baranggay) in eastern Visayas, anyways, I don't want to politicize this, let us not forget that she was a scholar of the former first lady Mme. Imelda, seguro naisip niya she's better off abroad na lang, dahil ang no. 1 supporter niya aside from her family, ay wala sa Pilipinas at that time! Naisip ko lang! But brava ang galing niya!

Here in the Philippines, we always talk about the great composers of all time, yet we never heard of any filipino composer being talked about in any of our topics. Classical music needs more appreciation. Especially composers from my country.

Napaka-husay nyo po Mrs.Licad.una kong napanood na vid nya yung Revolutuionario ni Chopin, dun pa lang humanga na ko.,

There are music stores in Platerias Street, Quiapo, Manila where you could get this and other Philippine classical piano pieces.

You see the "papapapa" only if you are watching a youtube video but you should not be even able to see this if you watch her in a symphony venue. Most musicians have their own special ticks, as they are called. I have seen violinists and pianists who literally go on a trance when they are playing and I use my binocs to watch their facial expression. Give her a break, she cannot help grimace and lose her poise when playing...let us judge her by her interpretation, not her facial expression.

BTW I said "she is a very good player" The thing about performing is that it is both aural and visual. One does not go to concerts to "just listen" one also watches This is probably why Lang Lang get more negative reviews if you will than Yundi Li as Lang Lang have this ("ticks") like long faced expressions, looking at the ceiling as if offering the performance to the composer which audiences call over-the-top expressions. Even Victor Borge wrote a skit on this "ticks". TY for taking the time.

Please don't get me wrong. I am not pulling her down. She used to be a prodigy and may still be. We owe her something if only for bringing Filipino talent to world stage. I am not also trying to upstage anyone. Until now I cannot even play the ending part of Chopin's Ballade No.1 with the ease it deserve or Beethoven's M. Sonata 3rd Mvt. even if by large it is basically arpeggiations. Still let the music flow with less interference from the interpreter like attention grabbing jerks and quirks.

Borge, an excellent musician himself, made fun of those which you call ticks. Getting into the zone (you called trance) is different. It is a very wonderful thing and a very moving event to watch. Beethoven, irritatingly once said "don't bother me with the inconsequential when the spirit gets into me". Put-ons that developed into habits is another thing. It takes away a chunk of beauty from the music and transfers the attention to the performer which is nakakairita that hopefully she gets rid of

Arrau, Rubinstien, Ohlssohn, Argerich, even Kempff, would not dare make jerky movements and quirky facial expressions as it takes away something from the music from the point of view of the audience. Nakakairita. There have been too many raves about Licad who is a good player by the way but to call a spade a spade, she is O A even if one don't compare her to the greats. Hope she also get rid of that papapapa...while playing. It gets ones attention when one should be listening to the music.
